“Super yummy beef bbq banh mi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2014

It was a rainy afternoon in Puerto Princesa and we were looking for somewhere to eat before we head to the airport for our flight back to Manila... Our tricycle driver suggested Rene's Saigon and since we're fans of Vietnamese cuisine, we readily agreed!

The place is like a big nipa hut and we ordered their beef stew with rice noodle, beef bbq in french bread, fresh spring roll with shrimp and spicy beef with lemongrass... All were delicious and satisfying! And server was friendly ;)

The pho hit the right spots during that cold rainy afternoon in Puerto Princesa :)

“Delicious Beef Stew Rice Noodle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

My second time here, couldn’t remember what I ordered before but this time, I had their famous Beef Stew with rice noodle for Php80 (that’s pretty cheap for pho) and Fresh Shrimp Spring Roll with Pork for Php120. I wanted to try their French Bread unfortunately, they ran out of it. Beef stew was very tasty! However, the restaurant is quite far from the city but tricycle drivers are very familiar with it. There’s also a terminal nearby so no worry about getting back to the city or your hotel.

Palawan is really a good place to have some authentic and cheap Vietnamese Food because many Vietnamese refugees stayed here during the Vietnam War.

“Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

Wait, how come there's authentic Vietnamese cuisine in Palawan? Well, not many will remember that Palawan was one of the few places that opened its doors to Vietnamese refugees fleeing from the effects of the Vietnam War. In return for the hospitality shown them by the Palawenyos, the Vietnamese gave the gift of the secrets to their cuisine.
Rene's Saigon is one such place where the secrets of Authentic Vietnamese cuisine is still alive and kicking. Check out their wonderful baguettes and fresh spring rolls!

“Great food & service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

Personally entertained by 46 yr old Rene who is a 2nd generation Vietnamese refugee. Great food and service. We paid only US$12 for multiple lunch order for 3 people. Rene will also give you tips on how to enjoy your vacation at El Nido, Coron, & Puerto Princessa. One mile ahead on the same street ( Rizal St ), you must try the crocodile meat & mangrove wood worm ( actually a mollusc & eaten fresh that taste like oyster ) at Kinabutch Restaurant.

“Value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

The prices were reasonable so I ordered the spicy squid with rice. The squid was just okay, a bit too oily for me really, perhaps next time i should try their french bread which is what they're known for.
