Our filipino travel agent (Airlite tour and travel) took the liberty of making us reservations for this restaurant without checking with us beforehand. We are happy she did!
Kalui Restaurant was an awesome place to go for true ambience for Palawan, and great food!
We had reservations for 6 pm for our group of 10, ages 8-70's. At the host welcome station, we were asked to take our shoes off that were placed in clothed bins. When we asked why, we were told it was due to the wooden floors.
The restaurant was very clean, the wooden floors beautiful, the decor authentic! Tables were arranged for large or small groups, there were even low rised tables for some to dine sitting on large cushions. As one review noted, yes, even the bathrooms were a place to lounge in peace! The restaurant was open air style but kept cool with ceiling and floor fans, plus no bugs!
The menu selections were few but authentic (seafood and filipino) and delicious!! Cocktails were beautifully served, as well as fresh fruit smoothies!! We were even treated to complimentary local fruits - mango, papaya, guava served in coconut shells.
The service was excellent and friendly. Dinner lasted 2 hrs. The only downside for us was this restaurant is not designed to keep young children entertained - and even electronic games didn't pacify our 8 yr old. So if you have young children - I suggest you make sure they are well rested before dinner and kept highly entertained.
