“Great service, fairly good facility”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

The two of us traveled to Palawan for 3 days and stayed at Hibiscus Garden Inn (after reading tripadvisor) in September (which was very rainy).
Pros: Excellent service (communicated via email to book hotel and Honda Bay and Underground River tours for us, so when we arrived, things were already arranged; when needed electrical adapter, umbrella, local map, restaurant recommendations, mosquito coils, breakfast orders, or wake up knocks on doors, staff provided happily), fairly good location (close to airport, walkable to restaurants and main street, but if you don't like to feel sweaty from the walk or humidity, then you can take tricycle taxi which are everywhere), fair cost (about $50-70 dollars/night, tours cost are standard without mark up).
Cons: Unreliable wireless internet (seems to work better on one side of rooms better than other side, so if you want better wireless connection, rooms 1-6 may be better than 7-14; I had to be outside the room to get internet), open shower with slow drain which floods the bathroom floor, toilet flush is weak (petpeeve of mine) but seems to be throughout Philippines, air conditioning took awhile to cool the room, cost extra to pay with credit card so bring some pesos if you don't like to pay extra fees.
Advise beside the ones above: If you are expecting Hilton or Marriott, you will be sorely disappointed. In the US, this place would get 2 to 3 stars. But for Palawan, this place and the service are considered very good. Prepare for rain, humidity and mosquitos. Good to have an universal electrical adaptor. There is not much to do around Hibsicus Garden Inn, so it may be good to plan your destinations either by yourself or by signing up for tours.

Room Tip: Rooms 1-6 may have better wireless internet access.

Stayed for 3 nights at the start of a trip to Palawan. The hotel is quite small and settled in its' own gardens which makes for a very peaceful setting. The room was very clean as was the bathroom. I was most impressed with the level of service, nothing was ever a bother of the staff abd tey were consistently professional and friendly. They would request our breakfast order of an evening which I thought was a very nice touch. The smallish restaurant served very hearty breakfasts and other meals were of a consistently good standard. I would certainly stay at Hibsicus again on a return visit to Palawan. The tours arranged through the hotel were great and it was no bother for them to pick us up and transfer us to the airport at the end of our stay. Overall a wonderful stay and made the trip to Palawan a very enjoyable one.

Our family of 4 stayed here for 1 night, which was our last day before we return to Manila. We got a classic room with 1 double bed, 1 single bed, and a folding bed. The beds could be better, but considering the price we paid, they were good enough. We asked for extra pillows, and they were delivered to our room promptly.

What I would commend about this hotel is their service. Before arriving, I was already communicating via email with Aida, and a few days before our trip, with Arlene via sms and phone calls. They both answered all our inquiries nicely, and Arlene was even kind enough to suggest alternative ways on how we can go about our Honda Bay tour on our own. They arranged for a van rental for us (1500 for the whole day) which picked us up at the San Jose terminal (we stayed in Sabang for 2 nights). We were then driven to the wharf as the hotel was still further away, and it was still too early to check-in. At first, we were having second thoughts as we did not know how secure it was to just leave our bags inside the van while we go island hopping. But needless to say, we took the risk and much to our relief, nothing got lost. The driver even helped us while we arranged for a boat for the island hopping (1500 - 4 islands). We just had to pay for the entrance fees of the islands we visited, but I think it was a better option than taking a tour from an agency or from the hotel. With the option we took, we could go to whichever islands we want, and we can stay for as long as we want. We just paid a minimal amount for the use of a cabana at the Luli Island where we had our picnic lunch - packed food arranged through Hibiscus which the driver of the van handed to our boatmen. The food was great and more than enough for the 4 of us - truly worth it.

At the end of our tour, the driver picked us up at the wharf. Before bringing us to the hotel, we asked if he could just bring us to a place where we can buy souvenir items/pasalubong. He then waited for us while we quickly shopped around. Good thing that we rented a van instead of tricycles as we were able to buy lots of stuff and the space was more than enough even with our big bags.

When we reached the hotel, we were naturally tired from the tour, not to mention hungry. We ordered their pizza and in just a few minutes, it was delivered to our room. Great pizza by the way. We were then reminded that our dinner reservation at Ka Lui was at 8:30pm (which they also kindly arranged). They also asked if we wanted to order some breakfast for the next day.

Overall, I am really glad that I chose Hibiscus for our stay in Puerto Princesa. Our trip would not have been as enjoyable as it was, if not for their help.

On the very outset I convey my thanks to Trip Advisor for providing me the correct information about the place, hotel and also about the tours. I now blame myself not including El-Nido in my itinerary. I had been to BOHOL to visit the Chocolate Hills, Blood Campus site, Loboc River cruise, etc. but the beauty of Palawan is such that it cannot be compared with other parts of Philippines. We reached Puerto Princesa on 19.10.2012. The hotel- The Hibiscus Garden Inn where we put in, is an in-built Eco-friendly atmosphere within the city itself with all available modern amenities. I must appreciate this innovative artistic sense. We really enjoyed our stay there. On the day we reached Palawan, we went for local sight-seeing by hiring one Tricycle by paying 500 PHP. We undertook the journey to the Honda Bay Island hopping on 20.10.2012 through the travel agency arranged by the Hotel. But I was not satisfied with the tour as they took us only to Pandan island, where they wasted a lot of time for arranging lunch, then to Pambato Reef for snorkeling and Jolie island nearby. At my request they also took us to Starfish Island, where I had to pay the entrance fee as the same was not included in their itinerary. The kits for snorkeling was hired on our way to Honda Bay, but I found that the hiring charges are cheaper near the stalls close to Tourist Information Office at Honda Bay.It is my experience that it would have been better if we had arranged the tour on our own by hiring one Tricycle at 500 PHP for our journey to and fro to Honda Bay, a boat for 1300 PHP for 4 persons or 1800 PHP for 8 persons (any additional person would require 250 PHP per person for both the boats) and also by paying nominal entrance fee like 40-50 PHP per Island, whereas you pay 1300 PHP per person to Travel Agency for the tour. Our tour for Under Ground River was fixed on the 3rd day of our visit i.e. on 21.10.2012 also through a Travel Agency fixed by the hotel. The rate for the tour was 1500 PHP per person. We were picked up at 7-15 AM from the hotel and reached the Tourist Information Office by 9-30 AM. It is my suggestion that this tour should be undertaken through Travel Agencies, as you have to apply for getting a pass well before and they are issuing only 800 passes a day. Our turn to start for Underground River by motorized boat after verification of our identities was at 12-15 PM. We reached a point near the Subterranean River National Park by walking through a little jungle trek and from there we were taken inside the passage of the river beneath the St. Paul mountain by a small paddled boat fitted with search light, where the boatman was our local guide. Inside was a passage in dark, built up of lime stone rock formations of marvelous imaginary formations glittering on the focus of the search light. The river stretches up to 8.5 Kms but we were allowed up to 1.15 Km by sailing through the calm waters of the river. The formations of the lime stones inside the cave are mind-blowing and opens the gate of an unseen new world, before you. The park around the river is also famous for monkey trail and other other wild life including birds. The visit to Palawan is incomplete, if one does not pay a visit to Ka-Lui restaurant. We had booked the restaurant before hands through our hotel for 20.10.2012. The ambiance of the restaurant including the delicious dishes they serve is un-parallel.

Room Tip: All the rooms are quiet.

We stayed there for 2 nights. For the 1st night, everything was perfect. Comes the second day, something unexpected happened. Before we left our room, the staff at the lobby asked us if we want the room to be cleaned, and we said yes. My mother's girlfriend intentionally left her wallet inside a plastic that contains some souvenir items (2 t-shirts) and placed it inside the cabinet. Upon returning from our tour, I noticed that only used towels are replaced but the room is not cleaned even the bedsheets are still the same when we left. Then my mother's girlfriend checked her wallet and to her surprise, Php 2000 was missing. Upon hearing that, I went to the lobby and reported it to the manager. Then the manager called the staff who cleaned the room. Then we all went to our room so that my girlfriend's mother will explain what happened. But as expected, the staff denied it and the manager can't do anything other than asking questions from both sides. In the end, nothing happened.

It's a family-based hotel with only a row of rooms on a single floor. The ambience is cozy and lovely. Rooms are big and clean, albeit a bit old. We had a nice little back garden with our own hammock. The water pressure for the hot shower is pretty low, but the cold shower is good. Water boiler is not provided but you can request for hot water in a thermos. The room's clean and the sheets smell nice!
The staff are great and full of smiles! Always willing to help, and ever so courteous. Even the owners are super friendly and gorgeously pretty! :D (Don't tell your sis, Joy!)
The hotel is very efficient in handling our tours and we are so very happy with the services provided here.
The only setback is the location. It is about 10 mins away from the town by tricycle and there's nothing much we can do within walking distance.

We had a great stay at Hibiscus Garden. The staff, the owners family, was very friendly the three days we stayed there. It was rainy season there at our stay and the hotel provided umbrellas to go from the bungalows to the reception and restaurant. The food in the restaurant was good, the breakfast was included. There was free wifi but the signal was not strong enough to be used inside the rooms. Instead most of our evenings were spent in the hammocks, one outside each room. The best restaurant, Ka Lou is only a 5 minutes tricycle ride away... :-)
