Where to start? Perhaps by saying this is the nicest place we've stayed in over three months of travels through Europe and Asia. It's that good.
We are an early-30s discerning British-Kiwi couple who have done a lot of travel all over the world and Treetops was everything we could have asked for, and more.
The hosts - David and Grace could not have been more hospitable nor helpful. They arranged for Mun Ding to meet us on arrival at the port and after a 10 minute tricycle ride we were welcomed with drinks and friendly chatter while watching the incredible sunset from the balcony area where David and Grace serve breakfast.
The room - simply wonderful. Beautifully designed to fit in with the hillside jungle surroundings with a nice sized balcony to relax on. Inside the room was spotless with tasteful artwork on the walls and lots of nice little touches like flower petals embedded within your fresh folded towels. It had clearly been thought about and it ticked all the boxes.
The location - a 15 minute coastline stroll from a white sandy beach and just 5 minutes by tricycle down to El Nido proper. Far enough out to be quiet but close enough to remain convenient.
The food - trust us, if David offers to serve you dinner, take him up on it. We were served a delicious fish fillets in coconut milk, ginger and lemongrass sauce, perfectly cooked veg and rice. The apple crumble with cream for dessert was wonderful too. It was the best meal we ate in three weeks in the Philippines. I don't know how much we were charged for dinner, but it didn't seem like enough when we settled up the final bill. David insisted that he served the food not to make a profit, but because he enjoyed cooking and it definitely came across that way.
In fact, in many ways that sums up Treetops. If you're after a hotel that treats you as a bill paying customer, this probably isn't for you. If you prefer a place in which you're genuinely treated as a prized guest, this is your place.
Thanks David and Grace and good luck in the future. It's well deserved.
