We would like to thank you for choosing to stay at The Phoenix Hotel during your recent visit to Yogyakarta and for sharing your comments with TripAdvisor visitors.

As our hotel is an original building dating 1918, and therefore classified as heritage, the size of the superior rooms are limited in space and only shower are offered in the bathroom. Executive and Suites rooms are offering bathtub.
Looking forward to your next visit.

Loved the Hotel. Chose it purely due to the Trip advisor comments. Booked a suite. For that price the value is incredible. Yes there were small minor hick ups during the stay... i.e. the key had a trick to open the door that I could not manage but thank God my partner managed. But besides that the ammenities and room were superb. The hotel is well managed and on the whole coming from the Hotel industry myself there was nothing lacking in the hotel. Everyone was as efficient as should be expected. went to the spa and loved the treatment as well imagine the last booking at 10pm as they close at 11pm have not seen many a spa open at that time. Breakfast was an enormous selection... I love asian food so was very pleased my partner was not that enthused. However all I can say is that is a Hotel you should go to if you are going to Yogyakarta. They arrange for you all transfers to the sights... with cold towels and water... it was a great service. Loved it! will recommend it any day.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2009

We stayed here for 2 nights in early December based on recommendations through Tripadvisor members and we were not disappointed. In our view this hotel deserves 5 stars for its style, character and the excellent service of its staff. We booked 2 rooms as we were travelling with teenagers and were given adjacent rooms on the 3rd floor, both with balconies overlooking the pool. The rooms were very clean, nicely decorated. They are not large but a standard size, with desk, wardrobe, new television. Bathrooms were also very clean. This hotel reminds me of a 'Raffles' style and the surrounds, the halls and other areas are tastefully furnished in and Chinese and indonesian style furnishings and artefacts. The restaurant was very good - a buffet available for breakfast and lunch is a buffet or ala carte as you prefer. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, with good humour (including for my halting Indonesian). The hotel is close to the mainshopping area - you could walk it but a taxi or becak would be easier in the heat. Its also well located for excursions out of town to Borobudur or Prambanan. Most of the rooms seem well set back from the road and so we did not find it noisy. Finally, the pool - It was great ater a day's touring and shopping, not crowded, with attentive staff ready to get you a drink or a coffee. (See my uploaded photos.) The hotel is in the Mercure chain as an M-Gallery hotel. This hotel is definitely worth staying at for something with far more character than the various 4 and 5 star chain hotels. The Phoenix really made our trip!!

Although it wasn't the best room we've stayed in, the amenities, fixtures, and old colonial feel of the hotel was absolutely 5 stars. Everyone says hello, and the friendly staff made our stay enjoyable. Better than any 5 star hotel in Australia, I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends.

I stayed for 4 nights in The Phoenix. It was a pleasant stay. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The hotel staffs are responsive. The local food in the restaurant are super! The problem is the lift, which is slow and too small (enough for one person with two travel bags).

We spent 4 nights in november in the Phoenix Hotel, and we enjoyed all of our stay.
The hotel building itself, in its style and architecture, is beautiful.
Very comfortable, helpful staff. And a superb buffet breakfast.
With a 15mn walk you are in the city centre, along the famous Malioboro street, for shopping or dining.
You get great value for your money, and we definitely recommend this hotel for a stay in Yogyakarta.

My partner and I stayed at the Phoenix Hotel in November 2009. It was absolutely delightful and we had no problems. The front desk staff was very nice, as was the staff at the buffet / restaurant. Our room was on the third floor of the "front" building (not the building that wraps around the pool. It was quite large and very clean with a private balcony. The gym was ok, I recommend going down about 30 minutes before your workout to make sure the AC is switched on. If not, just adjust it yourself then come back when some of the air has circulated. The locker room and sauna was small but adequate. We like to try and ride public transportation when visiting other cities and there is a bus stop right outside the hotel where you can easily catch buses to other parts of Yogya. There's also a convenience store across the street for snacks and pulsa (cell phone credit / recharging). And, one very lazy night, we walked 3 minutes over to Pizza Hut because frankly it had been a few weeks since either of us had tasted cheese and we were craving it! We went to the Wine Bar in the hotel on a Friday night hoping for a crowd but alas, it turned out that we were the only crowd. We sat for a couple of overpriced cocktails then called it a night. It was a very cool looking space, just no people in it.

I was disapointed to read that on your evening at Vino bar the crowd was absent. Usually, outside guests are coming around 11.00pm and on Fridays and Saturdays it is always busy.
Looking forward to your next visit.
