“We fell in love with this very charming hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

We stayed here for four nights. What an excellent experience!
The hotel is very charming with Colonial, Central Java and Peranakan touch. Location is great - close to Malioboro for those who likes exploring the area.
Room was spacious (we had an extrabed for our daughter), bed was very comfy and the linen was so soft. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
We ended up staying in quite a lot when we were there as it rained heavily everyday when we were there. We were grateful that their in-house services (room service dining, spa, laundry, dining at the restaurant, swimming pool) are excellent - five-star quality! - and relatively affordable. Indonesian food served at the Paprika restaurant (both buffet and à la carte) was delicious and authentic.Massage at the spa was brilliant and relaxing.
Highly recommended and will definitely come back.

i stayed during christmas holiday last year. the atmosphere of hotel really good although its old building. the swimming pool and gym station impressed me. i got suite room, the room was extraordinary!!! king size bed with balkon in the outside, bathroom just so so but they provide tons of amenities, im feeling like king when inside of my room. i couple times go to jogja so at that moment i didnt take dinner outside, i try the special dish in the restaurant. the sup buntut was awesome, the taste and price is good too. another special things of this hotel is located near tugu, the landmark of jogja. i had wonderful experience in this hotel, probably this is the best hotel in jogja!!!

I found The Phoenix Hotel through Tripadvisor, and I am surely not disappointed!

As I reached Yogyakarta quite early, I arranged for a full day tour (8 hrs) direct from the airport. We had Mr Erwin as the driver/guide, and he is a lovely young man who is also a very careful driver. Request for him if you are going to book any tour with the hotel. The tour cost us 950k rupiah, which did not include all the entrance tickets to all the temples. The tickets cost closed to 900k for both of us, which I find it rather costly.
At check-in, please try the tasty ginger candy at the reception. We loved its gingerly spice!
We had also tried the black bean pastry at the 1918 bakery & we loved it too. A box of it cost 25k.
The room was nicely decorated, ours is lacking of a bathtub. Would be nice to have one especially after the tour to the temples. A visit to Borobudur is a must!
Had taken breakfast & dinner at this hotel's only restaurant. Food is average, but the sambal (chilli paste) is fantastic!
Would choose this hotel if I come to Yogyakarta again!

This is an excellent hotel for the price you pay, rooms are small but functional and an awesome balcony where you can sit and enjoy the streets of Yogyakarta, but please make sure you have a room in the front else the view is blocked by the room and that makes it a dull view. Slow on service and staff is not fluent is English. Front desk is very helpful and accommodating. Overall good location, excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Stay by the pool side rooms. If no choice select room facing the roof side not the other as it may g...

This is an excellent hotel. The rooms are lovely, the pool area is fantastic and the breakfast is absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend getting a room overlooking the pool with a terrace, it is a great place to read and relax after an adventure in Yogyakarta.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the pool area.
