“Wonderful stay at the Pheonix”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

The photos of the Pheonix, while good, do not do it justice. The carefully restored history and beauty of this important Century old landmark needs to be savoured in the flesh. The current staff and management clearly have this firmly in their mind because they provide the most friendly, professional and consistently excellent service one could hope for, from the manager to the lowest paid worker, all are wonderful.
Do yourself a favour, stay at the Pheonix, perfect for business, or a romantic stay. Perhaps not so much for younger children but we did not have any so did not ask for services in respect to this.
We only stayed for one night but will be coming back for a week next time. Also, excellent central location, a few short minutes to airport and Amborokmu Mall, walking distance to other shopping and tourist areas.
LOVE IT!!

Room Tip: Poolside room best, don't go for eastern facing room, overlooks a cemetery.

This is one of the most beautiful hotel I have stayed in. The service is top-notched. We are always welcome with warm smile and greetings. We have an amazing time staying in the King room with a balcony looking over the swimming pool. It has a lovely view and even more beautiful at night, when the pool and other balcony are lit-up. We had multiple meals a day in the hotel and the food are really nice! Highly rated for anyone who is visiting Yogyakarta! Would definitely stay in this hotel again!

Room Tip: I recommend the room with balcony overlooking the pool. It is really amazing and beautiful.

Lovely hotel converted from an old colonial style house of a merchant, filled with history. Centrally located so easy to get around the city. Staff is friendly and very helpful. There is only one floor of non-smoking rooms so be sure to ask for one if you are a non-smoker. My fellow traveller had to change his room because of the unbearably smell left by the previous guest. He was given an upgraded room as all the rooms on the non- smoking floor were full. Breakfast is great with nice selection of western and local food. Unfortunately, did not have time to enjoy swimming pool and other facilities in the hotel.

This place is not so great and to be honnest was a bit disapointing.
In fact the rooms are very heterogenous.
We booked a suite overlooking the swimming pool so it was nice but 50% of the rooms will not be that nice and can even be terrible.
The swimming pool was always packed!!! which made it useless and closed by 8pm.
The restaurant is expensive but acceptable compare to the other restaurant in Yogya.
So, mixed feelings regarding this hotel....
Breakfast is very good.
Sauna is good !

Overall, I rated my satisfaction 10/10, value for my money 9/10.

Location is 9/10, close to Malioboro Street. I recommend to got o Marito Batik at the very end of Malioboro street to shop for handicraft and quality batik. they are not cheap. Batik price ranges from less than Rp 1 juta to Rp4 juta for 2 meter hand make cloth. Upstair had a wide variety of handicraft that is beautiful and of good quality.

Two restaurants close by - the Three nyonya and the Bebek Goreng (Fried duck). They are good choices.

Read other review there are all the same so I do not have to repeat...... go and read their.........

was there on august 2011. located in the center of jogja (yogyakarta), this hotel has very nice exterior design more like colonial style design. stayed in this hotel to feel the authenticity of the city. took 10-15 minutes from city train station by car, took 10 minutes to get to malioboro shopping district. 5 minutes walk you'll find Chinese restaurant with decent food that taste good. i should gave more points to the rating, but since my room wasn't the best for me.the price is not that bad for 4 stars hotel. the room is fantastic, its classic furniture but mixed with modern touch. very elegant and comfy. its not that big but very comfortable. the downside was that my room located facing the fountain area beside the restaurant. the restaurant has outdoor are so many people sitting there making noise plus the noise from the fountain water mixed up making you stay quite unpleasant. but overall it was very nice stay, very nice hotel, the staff also very nice.

Room Tip: avoid room facing fountain or near the restaurant.

My husband & I enjoyed a couple of days here last year. The hotel is a tad worn around the edges so to speak but the staff are wonderfully friendly and the meals very tasty. For our purposes, the location was perfect!
