“Beautiful spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

A lovely place, with attentive owner, and coming from Bali, reasonably priced. The food was good, not brilliant, but very tasty. Not high end as some would suggest but definitely worth the visit.

Dear both of you,

Thank you for your review I appreciate the brevity and the objectivity.

I agree with you on all of your words and I take this opportunity to provide some additional information for readers.

We do not come to KR for finding the Mozaic's kitchen. We come with friends after work, We come for a relaxed atmosphere, We come for its frank and direct cuisine, prepared with the heart; probably more generous than brilliant, more "Bib Gourmand" (to use the analogy of Michelin, even if this label is not yet developped in Indonesia) than a "1st Macaron" ...

This point brings us closer to the tradition of true Bistros, Trattorias and Warungs.

I wish you a marvelous End-Year Celebration,

Best Regards,
Chef Lilies.

“Home-feeling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

The French owner gave us a warm welcome and guides us to our seats. Based on the past reviews I decided to ask what he recommends for today. He recommended prawn soup and the special homedish Kesuma chicken. The soup tasted delicious with a sweet taste and a tiny spicy after taste, a perfect blend. Because of this my expectations for the main course was high. The food didn't taste as good as it looked. Compared with the appetizer the chicken was beside the lay-out nothing more than average. The portions were big and suitable for the Western customer.
It also started to rain, as we were sitting outside the staff reacted a bit late with moving all the drinks inside. However they were really attentive and offered a new free drink instead.
All in all, I do recommend you this place when you are around.

“Just let yourself go for one evening..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Since you are in Yoga, find yourself an excuse like.. hey.. we've met exactly 333 months ago.. ;-) and just forget Indonesian average prices.. Enjoy the atmosphere and the great food.. Just follow the advise of the French owner, and you want be disappointed. We sticked with the local food, great Indonesian style Tom Yam and the Yogya chicken Curry.. Just do it !

“Very tasty food and nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

I stay at Jogja Village Inn hotel in Yogja and, as the staff is always very reliable on all kind of recommendations you need, I asked them about a resto where to have dinner because after more than 1 month here in Yogya I just run out ideas. So they recommended me the kesuma resto which is close to the hotel and about 10 minutes walking from Prawirotaman and Parangtritis streets.

They told me about this restaurant because a lot of gests use to go there and always give the same report, which is very good food and prices. I have eaten in many different restaurants around the region, both traditional and for tourist, so there are just those two categories (some better than the other). In this case this is clearly a resto for foreigners as you can easily notice on the menu on first sight. So it's clearly not cheap at all compared with the average prices in Yogya. The guests maybe were saying that it's cheap as if you compare it with similar restaurants in Europe, there is stil a big difference. But not if you are used to the indonesian prices after a couple of weeks around here.

Anyway we said "ok, if we think in euros it's still cheap, and it's really a very nice place so let's do it". I would say that it is mostly indonesian chicken but with kind of fusion, as the dishes had some kind of exotic touch talking about the spices and other details. But you really have to be a good decision maker, as you can also fail by ordering a very basic indonesian soup, which has nothing special even it it's prepared by Ferran Adriá, so finally you can get disappointed of paying that much money.

In my case I decided to take an advice from the owner I think, so the result was quiet satisfactory.

Dear Sir,

The Team of KR joins me to thank you for your review.

At least 3 points call for a response:

- You may be surprised, but while the TA reviews do not clearly show it, 70% of our clientele is composed of Guests from Jakarta, Bandung, Malaysia and Singapore;

- We are always listening to our Guests to assist them in their choice; Our Menu (changed once or twice per year), voluntarily reduced, suggests (among the starters) 3 soups, (among the maincourses) 6 chicken recipes and 4 fishes. Regarding the fresh materials find in the morning, we can also suggest a Daily suggestion;

- Our cuisine close to the Javanese Bistro (the Warungs) is very, very, very far from the molecular cuisine of Ferrán Adrià (However you will need to wait until 2014 for a possible re-opening of El Bulli) ;-).

We wish you a marvelous End-Year Celebration,

BR,
Chef Lilies & the KR Family.

“Absolutely fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

I came across this restaurant on Tripadvisor and made a reservation for our wedding anniversary. It's run by an Indonesian lady and her (french?) husband, and the restaurant is literally the front of their house.

Bookings are essential, because there are, at best, 7 tables in the while restaurant. The ambience was great and we were extremely well looked- after.

Most importantly, the food was out of this world. Fresh, home- cooked and authentic.

Leave the pastas and steaks at home. If you're game for local food in a classy setting, this restaurant is a must- try.
