“A must see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

We thought this was really interesting and a glimpse into a different world. You can have a guide which I would highly recommend and you pay at the end what you feel it was worth, we really enjoyed it but would not go again I don't think.

“Not worth the cost of admission”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

This tourist trap is a total rip off unless you enjoy looking at clothes, jewellery, medals & photos of past and present Sultans......

Price of admission must be the Sultans main source or income but none of it is used to a poorly maintained palace

“Presidential Palace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2012

The palace is relatively recent, and has an interesting history (last 150 years). It is worth having a guide. The sultans of the time were clearly interested in having a palace with mod-cons such as stained glass and brass chandeliers. There are a large number of photos of the family, family processions with horse drawn carriages and guards in Austrian like outfits, and tours by visiting dignatories. On display are gifts from other countries to the royal family - in most museums these would probably be on display in darkened rooms with dramatic and effective spot lighting, however here they are stored in timber cupboards. I understand that there is usually a performance or music from 10-12 each day except Sunday (I visited on a Sunday).

“Great overview of traditional Javanese culture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2012

Visit in the morning when it is cooler and before the tourist busses arrive and you won't be disappointed. Wonderful glimpses of traditional Javanese music, batik and royalty. Friendly, informed guides make the tour very worthwhile.
