“Kampung stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2011

Excellent place to stay. Be careful though: it's not a luxury villa! It's a beautiful place in colonial style in the middle of Yogya (walking distance from restaurants) but in the middle of a traditional kampung. Don't expect butler service like in som villas in Bali (but then again this is not that kind of holiday). You will definitely need earplugs as the mosque is right next door. Friendly staff and good breakfast. The only downside is that there is no fan and no screen doors so you have to turn on the aircon at night instead of the fan and leaving the doors open. Will definitely stay there again if I decide to go back to Yogya (may wait a while now as I have been four times already :))

We've been to Jogya before and have always stayed in hotels, Pondok Terra seemed like a great way to feel more at home and explore the city from a more residential location. Perfectly situated, a vigorous walk or a short taxi ride from Jalan Malioboro, the Silver villa met all our requirements. The interior is lovely - and presents a nice ambience, its really roomy and boasts both a large bathroom and well equipped kitchen. Outside the pool is really refreshing and private. There's a couple of comfortable lounges and tables for eating both inside and out.
The 24hr staff are at hand to assist you with directions, transport etc and also provide security. They will even order you a home delivery meal. The local environs are a pleasure to walk through with daily life opening up before you. On the main street is a great Chinese seafood warung which served tasty food at amazing prices.
There is noise from the local mosques, but that is all part of living and visiting Java - we did not find it intrusive and after hearing it briefly in the early morning, its easy to go back to sleep.
All in all we really enjoyed our couple of days here - swimming in the morning and shopping in the afternoon. If you wish to see the culture and sites theres plenty to keep you busy and tours can be arranged for you.

Pondok Terra has two (soon to be three) walled villas that offer relaxed privacy in a great location in the southern part of the city, near the Kraton (Palace). Everything is in very good, laid-back, taste. The villas are well-equipped.

Given the heat in Yogya, it's great having a private swimming pool, and the water is kept very clean.

There is a mosque next door, and you may be woken by a 4 am morning call to prayer. However this is a problem in other Yogya hotels, not just Pondok Terra.

Stayed at the Silver Villa for 3 nights right in the heart of the city! A bit of a walk to the Kraton (palace) and further down to the shopping area of Malioboro.Very quiet place to relax after a days worth of sight seeing and traveling. The pool is great to have as the day was always humid and hot. Staff takes good care of you and the area, almost like having a personal butler/maid on hand. Toilet was huge with towels, soap, shampoo and a tub. They also provide a potable clean water dispenser for drinking.

Downside to it is there is always insects drowning in the pool (small mayflies and such), ants can quickly invade the place if you toss around food/drinks or not covering the trash in the house, there is only an air-con unit beside the bed for the entire huge house so it gets warm under the covers. Place could do with a fan.

They now have tie-ins with travel agency and food delivery services. They also call taxis if you need to go anywhere. Overall the place is almost as good as those villas in Bali or Thailand. Definitely worth every penny spend. ;-)

Room Tip: Choose the silver villa if you are a couple and the gold for a family.

I stayed in the Gold villa last weekend while vacationing with friends looking to take a break from our teaching jobs in East Java. This place was amazing. The location is well within striking distance (walking) from the kraton, and its position in the southern, more classy side of Jogja makes for an ideal surrounding. It's worth noting that Java has an incredible population density that typically makes tranquility impossible to come by. Not so with Pondok Terra. The villas are located at the heart of a network of quiet, narrow streets set back from the city's major roads. You really can relax at this place, and it's an ideal haven to return to after a busy day seeing the sights of Borobudur, Marlioboro, Prambanan, etc. Staff was also extremely courteous and helpful, always ready to give advice or provide recommendations.

Bottom line: Pondok Terra is a worthy attraction in itself, particularly of the more refreshing variety that's so hard to come by on Java, and I hope you head back soon.

This was one of the best decisions we have ever made together, for our wedding anniversary. As travelers, we always look for boutique hotels or hidden gems and this is undoubtedly one of Yogyakarta's hidden secrets.

It's completely hidden away, where upon arrival, you arrive at friendly staff who greet you and of course, when you see the villa - you're blown away. We definitely were.

According to the staff, the premises - including the overall interior design and look-and-feel were all done by a dutch designer, who later decided to sell the premises to local Indonesian owners who inherited this beautiful property.

It's quite opulent, in our standards - from the marble flooring, to the private pool, to the plush lounge outside with pillows, to the mosaic flooring, to the candles, to the classic four-legged bath tub. There was also a full kitchen for us to cook a simple breakfast, and the best part? You can stay in the villa the entire duration of your stay, and no one will bother you.

Perfect blissful privacy.

My only comment about this villa is that while it is near the city, it's still not a well-known address. So it can be tricky to navigate to, if your driver is not familiar. So it would be best to always keep their name card with the address printed at the back with you at all times, so you are never lost.

We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Choosing Villa Silver is recommended, especially if you want the bath tub. Villa Gold does not have...
