“Dissapointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

- The rooms are all boardering the lobby. So you won`t sleep before 00:00 and will be awake around 5:00AM because people leave for an excursion to Borobodour. Also cigarette smoke enters the rooms

- Also dissapointed about the really small rooms because they have NO windows, only a scarf as sheet and no hot water for 185.000rp

Yes there are a lot of wall paintings.... but I actually preferred a better room

Room Tip: Search for another hostel in the same allley. This hostel takes advantage of their Lonely Planet rec...

We spent 3 nights at Setia Kawan. It is in a nice location at Sosrowijayan. There provide free tea and coffee 24 hours in the common area. the breakfast is also nice. The rooms are very small but charming with nice wall paintings and linens. Although there are no windows in any of the rooms, it is somehow airy inside. The only main problem we has is that there is no sink in the rooms. You have to use the one which is on the hallway. This is kind a weird actually since there are toilets in the rooms. we also had an unfortunate encounter with a rat in the common area:( Despite that it was an ok stay at Setia Kawan.

We stayed here for around $20 (AUD) breakfast included. The breakfast was decent. There is wifi but you don't get it in your room so have to come out to the communal area. The best thing about this place is the location just at the top of Marliobro street, convenient but not in the thick of the noise. The place is what is it - a guesthouse geared towards backpackers. Don't expect luxury but do expect and interesting artistic set up. Our room was at the end of the corridor. It was quite small with an ensuite, both were basic (no hot water). There was only one window in the ceiling, so if you have close space issues this might not be for you. Other than that it was comfortable and good if you go in expecting to get what you pay for. I give it a 4 rating because of the location, without the location its a 3.

The staff here are great. especially Wulan who helped myself and a friend out a lot. Really comfortable place but rooms are small. Really relaxing though as city is busy. Really good location too and close to good restaurants. Didn't have the food here. It was easy to arrange everything from this hostal and very reliable too. Although our tour to Borobudur only included transport and no information about the temple from the tour company. There are internet facilities which is really helpful too.

Room Tip: book in advance as it is busy here

We just came back from a flight from Denpasar and we found Setia Kawan. We had a great stay their. Actually good value for your money. The crew was excellent and i loved the breakfast. You can choose from different rooms. We slept between the dolphins and the turtles. My girlfriend and I loved it. If we come back to jogjakarta we go defenitly to Sita Kawan.

If you are looking for something special, then you are in the right place Setia Kawan. It is a very clean and friendly place. The rooms are beautifully designed, very artistic and at the evening you can admire the star-sky on the terrace. The staff happy to help if you are planning day trips in or near Jogja. There are also batik courses offered and bike rental is available, too. The friendly owner (Bedhot), the artist of this house is very helpful! SUPER Loose, at an affordable price, in a very central location (2 min. to the Malioboro Street).

Room Tip: All rooms a nice and clean !
