We have stayed several weekends - when a room is available - and prefer it to other 3-star places nearby because while it has the same floor space, facilities and pricing of others of its ilk it also has murals and art objects by local young artists in rooms and public spaces, some small design touches and a 24-hour cafe that has good food at reasonable prices. The clientele are a mix of foreigners and locals with celebrities sprinkled among the latter. Of a Sunday morn, the cafe can sport coiffed young clubbers washed up after a long night who now find themselves enjoying wafts of the revivalist church's funky pop numbers as the doors open and close on the adjacent meeting room and a small film crew with a model placed artfully on the lobby's spiral staircase while Middle Eastern, European and Indonesian families wander around the buffet. The hotel is also just across a carpark from Sarinah, which is good for designer batik from all over the archipelago. More
