“Horrible and scary experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013 via mobile

I am shocked by how bad a hotel / service apt can be. How old and worn must a hotel be before the management decide to have a proper renovation??

It makes customers feel so uneasy staying in it. It may be very cheaper compare to the neighbouring hotels but with limited facilities, old n ageing furniture and untasteful deco. Some corners of the hotels are dark and scary, there are noises heard even late at nights! When my friends and I check it out, there are noone else along the corridor.
Very bad experience staying here. Never will I come back again and I would not recommend staying here. Go for a back packer hostel!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

Stayed there for 3 nights in April 2013 and found my stay extremely pleasant. Polite staff and excellent facilities in the room. Ample studio with well furnished recently renovated rooms.

The kitchenette was well equipped and has all the tools and equipment necessary to whip up a quick meal for yourself. The bathroom was stocked with the usual L'occitane toiletries that is the hallmark of Ascott rooms.

The check-in and check out was painless and efficient. Breakfast was inexpensive by global standards but I did not go for it as the hotel was conveniently located directly across Grand Indonesia where one would be spoilt for choice with eateries.

Room Tip: Stay in the new refurbished rooms in one of the wings and avoid the other wing with the older rooms...

The Ascott serviced apartments are clean, comortable but pretty basic. I am in a 1 bedroom apartment, its very spartan, no frills but it is clean and really thats what matters most.

Great location in the CBD so very easy access to many hotels and malls.

The facilities are very basic, the 'restaurant' is poor and hardly used. The Mandarin Oriental it certianly isn't!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

I stayed at the Ascott Jakarta on the first weekend of April 2013 for 3 nights, on a business trip. I had a spacious one bedroom apartment, well furnished, comfortable bed, working air-con and good bathroom amenities.

The building is well located in the city centre, close to the Grand Indonesia "shopping town" and Plaza Indonesia. Although the buildings are all closeby, the heat, humidity and crowd just make walking around very unpleasant. Taxis are easily available but not all cab drivers understand English.

Breakfast in the cafe is basic but sufficient.

Some negatives - the electrical power supply in my apartment tripped twice during my stay. While the technicians responded swiftly to my call, it was tiring having to go down to the lobby to make the complaint and then back to a dark apartment to wait for help (it was around midnight).

Secondly one of the telephone sets in the apartment did not work (I think it was the bedroom's phone). On the morning of my last day when the phone rang I was running between the bedroom and living room to answer the phone. It happened 3 times and it was frustrating.

Overall the stay was comfortable, staff are friendly, and I would recommend Ascott Jakarta.

Room Tip: I had a corner room and it was surprisingly spacious. You may wish to enquire if a corner unit is av...

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I stayed here in early April 2013 for 2 nights over a busy weekend in Jakarta. We had a 2 bedroom Executive Suite on the 10th floor and were initially impressed by the grand size of the apartment, the huge living room, spacious bathrooms, and it's classic decor. However, our enthusiasm was offset by some big problems with the apartment (see below). My overall review is below.

PROS
- Large rooms, spacious bathrooms
- Spacious, semi-renovated bathrooms
- Decent value for location and space

CONS
- Checkin was a lengthy ordeal taking more than 10-15 minutes
- Odd musky smell was perpetually present in apt
- Outdated, unrenovated kitchen
- Outlets not compatible with U.S. 2 prong and 3 prong plus
- Universal plug adapters at front desk not compatible with US plugs
- Mold and mildew buildup in shower coupled with strong odor
- Front desk seems regularly understaffed

A lot of these negatives could be solved if management listened to its customers and focused on them. If they did, I could easily see this property deserving a 4+ star recommendation. Will I visit again? Probably not in the near future but perhaps next year I'll give it another go to see if anything got better. A of course another review will follow...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

Just back from 1 night -using a complementary gift voucher- at the Ascott Apartments on Kebun Kacang, near Plaza Indonesia, with husband and 2 kids.
The lobby is lovely, with wooden Javanese items on display, the gardens are small, but lots of fountains and water displays, quite lovely actually. The hotel is surrounded by taller buildings and that keeps the pool area mostly in the shade. In the evening, there was a strong smell of gutters, unfortunately.
The apartment is large, well appointed, with a kitchen, washing machine, and a nice large living area with TV, DVD, clean and overlooks the shopping district. The 2 bedrooms -one with 2 single beds and the other with a Queen bed- are ensuite and the beds very comfortable. The kitchen, however, look very dated.
The big disappointment was their restaurant. As we arrived late and our lads were very hungry, we decided to give it a try. The café restaurant looks cheap - white tables and orange sofas/chairs-, not at all in line with the warm wooden deco of the hotel, and the food is below what i expected. Our salmon dishes were reasonable, but the duck dish was a joke -burnt, pure bones, no meat, -served with a little rice and a few veggies...I was so disappointed that I asked for a discount.. which was given, fortunately! No wine on the menu, just canned beer (mind you, you are in a Muslim country, so I won't complain!)
Breakfast was served in the same restaurant, nothing fancy (an egg station, some fruits, breads, cakes, fried rice and noodles, cereals)
Check out was efficient and easy, and overall we were happy to spend a night in the midst of Jakarta (we live in the outskirts). But avoid the restaurant !
