“Please..please revamp this hotel :)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Here's the review in brief:
Likes:
- Location, can't deny that it is very strategically located, especially for people doing business around the Kuningan Area towards Mampang.
- Staff still retains the high end hotel hospitality standard, they smile and greet the guests.
- Comfy bed: the bed was soo comfortable.
- Breakfast choice was OK. Enough to start the day, Oh yes, the coffee was excellent! Not the usual been-sitting-on-the-heater-for-don't-know-how long black coffee.

Dislike:

- Old, frayed carpets and wallpapers, tiles and well, everything in fact :)
- Light switch placement, still using bedside ones instead of wall mounted. My room was already using the tap to open keycard, but strangely once you took it out of the power slot, the power will be cut off and when you slide the card back in, only the foyer light turn on, you literally have to walk towards the far side of the bed, flick the switches one by one! I mean after a long tiring day, that can be very-very irritating, coming in to a pitch black room in an old, frayed hotel.
- Traffic in front of the hotel during rush-hour is unbearable.
- Food choice: nothing much around the hotel, you're pretty much stuck with the hotel's restaurant or the Hoka-Hoka Bento near the convention hall

Will I be back? Probably :) Hopefully to a renovated Kartika Chandra.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, facing the swimming pool, no traffic noise. Beware tho, since this hotel...

After reading all of the bad reviews on this hotel, I was concerned about going to stay there. But we needed to stay at Kartika Chandra, as it was in the heart of the business district and across the road from the BKPM office, where we needed to go.

When you arrive at the airport, jump on the X-Trans airport shuttle bus. Only Rp30.000 per person, one way and it drops you at the door of Kartika Chandra. The bus departs every hour. Or a Bluebird taxi only costs Rp100.000 one way (not Rp250.000 like everyone else says). The journey only takes 45 minutes (not 90 minutes like everyone else says).

The good thing about Kartika Chandra, is that you can check in at 13:00 (instead of the standard 14:00 with other hotels). Staff were pleasant and efficient upon check-in. We only paid USD130 per night, for an Executive Suite, which is cheap!. The suite was great! Yes, the furniture was a bit old fashioned and tired looking and in that ''Jakarta style''. But the rooms were big and the apartment had a safe, cosy feel. It was like a home away from home.

There was an entrance foyer, with mirror and table/ wardrobe for clothes and luggage/ guest toilet. Then a nice loungeroom with sofa and 2 armchairs, tv with full satellite channels, tea & coffee making facilities, mini bar etc. The bedroom was large and again with tv & full satellite channels. The bathroom was big and included another wardrobe for hanging clothes, along with a safe. The towels were nice and clean and toiletries were provided.Carpets and furniture was all clean.

Negatives........only in the bedroom. The pillows were a tad old and needed to be freshened up or replaced with new ones. One of the light bulbs didn't work, but that didn't matter as there were still alot of lighting options to choose from. Only one lampshade was dusty. One small section of the bedroom wall was dirty and needed to be wiped clean. So that just means that the cleaners are a bit lazy and don't pay attention to detail. Apart from that.......all else was good.

We swam in the pool which was beautiful and clean. Our complimentary buffet breakfast was an absolute delight! Lots of fresh juices to choose from and also tea and coffee. A HUGE food selection - breads and pastries and condiments and cereral / all hot Indonesian dishes, rice, noodles, vegetables, potatoes, omelets, chicken etc etc. Really delicious! You could return to the buffet as many times as you liked. You would not leave disappointed or hungry, Staff were very sweet and friendly.

Also, in the same complex, there are shops, a pharmacy, massage place, travel agent, etc. Also there is a Cinema 21 next door, only 20 steps away, if you feel like catching a flick. Then there is a Planet Hollywood, if you want a change of scenery for lunch or dinner. Check out was a breeze. We checked out one hour late and were not charged.

I need to go back to Jakarta again next month for another business trip and I will definitely stay at Kartika Chandra again!

Great value for money!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and upgrade to a suite.

I had stayed at this hotel two times, and here's the review :

- The hotel is really really old and classy. The room is equipped with some old furnitures too. The room is quite neat, comfy but the air conditioner is not going properly..
- The regulation is not too tight. I stayed two times at Superior and Deluxe Room with my 7 friends! Can't you imagine that??
- The breakfast is so so. The fruits are not sweet enough and sometimes it was really hard to bite
- This hotel's facilities are good. There are a cinemas beside the hotels, there's a Hoka Hoka Bento Restaurant, many ATM center, there's a clinic called Medika Plaza on the third floor and there's a karaoke place called Big Bang,
- The swimming pool is not large and it was very crowded especially in the sunday morning, Many kids were learning how to swim with their teacher.
- The price is too PRICY. IDR 800k for a night at Deluxe Room, for a very old room is bad at all. We can get another better hotel with that price such as : Manhattan Hotels
- The traffic in front of the hotel is REALLY BAD. No words but BAD.

I have the same view with most of the reviewer, that this is an old and faded hotel. However, I ended up in this hotel when I entered Jakarta at almost midnight.

Trying our luck, especially that our two little ones need to have proper sleeps (not in the car), I bet to get a good room.

And... the staff was simply told me that they have available deluxe rooms at level 5 newly upgraded. lucky me I guess, and it was really a good clean room.

After seeing this room, I am confident to come back to KC for another stay.

Not to forget, the breakfast is Good! love it!

Room Tip: Ask for the newly renovated room!

This is a well situated hotel, with a moderately price 4 star (at least the rate for someone with KTP) and with it is strategically close to a lot of interesting places such as Planet H (cafe/ cinema), Bellagio Apt/ The East Building (both are at Grand Kuningan) that we will find plenty of cafes & restaurants, and also Ambasador Mall ( passing Grand Kuningan area) is a famous cellphone trading center as well as foodstall center.
Actually, right, this is a faded hotel, lack of Front Office staff, shabby lobby area, old carpet in the lobby area, small size swimming pool etc. but comparing to Singapore's 4 star hotel with the same rate, this hotel maybe have their competitiveness.
For Westerner who is interested in Indonesian Cultural, this hotel will be a worth to stay, originally this hotel have the best Javanese style interior which still can be seen in the area of the Ballroom. On Saturday and Sunday, an Indonesian traditional wedding party always be held in this Ballrroom. which can be an additional attraction to the hotel's guest..
I have been familiar with this hotel, because the location is so close to my office and its convenient to have a "go show" check in for our business guest. Try to choose the older room in the upper floor ( a room w/ Brownish Wooden carving and a Batik headboard bed.) it has a better interior touch.
In a few blocks from this hotel we will find another better hotel with better room, better breakfast and closer to the Mall, but ofcourse we have to pay the rate that double as much. .

First of all this is a nice hotel and if you have chosen to stay here you will like it. Facilities in the hotel are good and the swimming pool is of a reasonable size (you can actually swim up and down it and there is a separate kids pool). The breakfast is good but has more of a Indonesian focus than Western but western people will by no means go hungry. There is a quaint little cake cake/pastry shop inside the hotel near the entrance which was very tasty and added a nice touch. The biggest problem with the hotel, as many people have said, is it is outdated and has a very old feel to it. The room size is nothing special and the TV was tiny and looked like it was bought in the 80's. One good thing about the room was the bed was enormous and very comfortable. It just feels like the owners are milking this place for every penny they can get until it is completely outdated and no-one wants to stay there anymore. Like I have said the hotel is nice but for the price you will pay you would be much better going elsewhere.

Kartika Chandra as I remember when I was young is still the same, no much change, but now is very old fashion. I was stay there for about 3 night for business purposes. Hemmm..... at first I was check in in the deluxe room double bed, the room is quite spacious, but I did not feel homy.... the room has connecting door and very noisy from the next door guest, so I asked to move to another room, I got twin beds room but unfortunately the condition is still the same. The room itself has dirty carpet and the bath room was not well cleaned. The furnitures, curtains, carpet were out of date, especially television, no LCD. old 21" television. In my opinion it should be better if the hotel renovated and changed the category to boutique hotel.

Room Tip: Nice city view from higher room
