I used to live in Jakarta, and spent 2 years in the apartment complex next door, so I knew the hotel's F&B outlets pretty well, using them at least a couple of times a week.
Consequently, when we needed to go to Jakarta for a family wedding, plus a New Year party, and we saw PL for USD95 nett I thought why not?
The pluses? Room size, good. Bathroom is OK, although no separate shower. Very attentive and polite service - this is Indonesia so I would expect nothing less. Breakfast buffet was pretty reasonable, a fair selection without being stellar.
Some minuses though: the hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. It looks exactly the same as it did 7 years ago the last time I set foot inside it.
The room was surface clean, but not deep down clean - the carpet stained, the walls scuffed, the bathroom fixtures neglected. This is really not acceptable where staff are frankly the lowest cost in your P&L, you can have dozens of cleaning and maintenance staff, but if you don't have good supervision or standards, you will lose out. My wife, being Indonesian, got on the phone to housekeeping and fired off a volley or two and we came back to a shampooed carpet.
Another issue is that it is good value for locals, which in itself is no bad thing, but their kids are. Indonesians are utterly incapable of controlling their offspring, so if you find brats running amok (and I use the word advisedly knowing its etymology full well) in the restaurant and public areas acceptable, then fine. I don't!
Overall, the room was OK, a reasonable price. The F&B outside the included breakfast was of a fair quality but not cheap, so be warned.
Would I return? Not sure - depends on what other offers might be out there.
