“Simply ….. stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2011

Excellence in customer service ….. From the front desk to the General Manager 110% committed to delivering a memorable experience to the end user being the customer.

The Mandarin Jakarta provides the highest level of Security I’ve found to date in Asia and it’s not smoke and mirrors. The Security department is extremely professional and well trained …..

The team at the Mandarin Jakarta are what I would consider the best practitioner’s in hospitality and customer service a truly rare find in Indonesia …… Don’t change anything!

Stayed there before the hotel closed for renovations years ago and have since stayed there after the renovations for different occasions. I find the rooms spacious, bed and pillows - Very Comfortable and the service and attention from the staff, very good.

Location is excellent as close to the malls and walking distance as well.

Restaurants in the hotel served amazing Chinese and French food... My in-laws loved staying there and have not stopped raving about it.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Welcome Monument is the best view

After being away from this property for six months and stopping in unannounced, I was greeted with a sincere "Welcome back, Mr. HKG_Flyer1!" by the girl manning the front entrance... and that epitomizes what this hotel is all about---- highly personalized service delivered by friendly, enthusiastic staff.

For those who may have stayed here years ago, this property has essentially been completely rebuilt after a multi-million dollar complete rehab that took a couple of years to complete (during which time the property was closed). The resulting transformation is truly stunning!

In contrast with most of the other leading five-star hotels in Jakarta, the Mandarin is much smaller, with only 272 rooms and this contributes to a much more sedate feel and enables the staff to deliver the extremely high level of service for which Mandarin is renown.

What makes this property so outstanding is the unique combination of an outstanding physical product (the hotel's rooms, restaurants, bars and common areas) coupled with world-class management. I can't really add much to the description of the rooms offered by other reviewers--- they are absolutely the best in Jakarta (and I've tried all the competition)-- new, large, luxurious, with great bathrooms. The restaurants are also top notch. The only somewhat valid complaint I've heard about the primary restaurant, Cinnamon, is that its buffets aren't as large as those at the Ritz, Marriott, or Mulia-- and that is quite true. While breakfast here is first class, with a wide variety of Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese and Western offerings, if you want a blow-out buffet event, try somewhere else. Beyond that, the coffee shop, French restaurant and Chinese restaurant are all among the best in Jakarta. The bar, MO Bar, has quickly established itself as a Jakarta institution. The service there is outstanding and highly personalized-- as others have posted, the servers appear to view themselves as ambassadors of both the Mandarin as well as the Republic of Indonesia and are delighted to share all of their insights as to how best to enjoy one's stay in Jakarta; they also show a real interest in the well being of the customers, and will do everything they can to make your evening enjoyable. Ladies night can get a little rambunctious-- but the rest of the time it is fairly tranquil--- a really good live band performs one night per week, as well.

The in-room massages here are also far better than at most Jakarta hotels--- they bring a real massage table and all sorts of other stuff to the room for your massage (it takes 2 people to set up and remove)--- ginger tea, foot bath with flowers, soothing CD of Indonesian music, etc.

The fitness center is small, but adequate-- brand new, high end cross trainers and treadmills--- a little skimpy on the weight training side, but the machines they have are new and well maintained, and they have a small selection of free weights. Also they have a pretty high tech wall-mounted training machine that employs variable tension adjustable pulleys. The pool is also smallish, but quite tasteful and pleasant (except on weekends, when it is overrun by local families bringing their children for a "stay-cation"!)-- with a small snack bar that can be a nice place to grab a fresh juice and sandwich.

What really makes this hotel great however is the staff- the general manager has done a great job of instilling professionalism and pride among the staff, and he is a constant, visible presence on site. Don't be surprised if he approaches you during your stay to "check in" and see how everything is going.

Having stayed in a fair number of the world's top hotels (and all of the other 5 star properties in Jakarta), I can truly say that the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta is one of the best hotels in the world.

Room Tip: On weekends, rear-facing rooms are the quietest.

What can I say? The rooms are sumptuous and the beds very comfy. The bathroom was very large with an incredible shower system.

The new bar is lovely and ideal for an intimate late night drink.

Everything you expect from a Mandarin Oriental, but for a good bargain. Spa is first rate and the rooftop pool has a nice bar to lounge by. Rooms are large and plush, bathroom very spacious with a deep bathtub and double sinks. Location is good, you cannot really walk to anything, but they offer free shuttle service to the mall next door and cabs are easily available. Several good dining options including a bakery that has delicious offerings all day long.

The Mandarin Oriental Jakarta is truly a luxury hotel with all the expected amenities and does not have the drawbacks of a casino type of hotel. The lobby is a heaven in its true meaning, while the location is within a very short walk from all the shopping / action you would expect. Strong attention to details in the room on absolutely everything, even the shape of the complimentary bottle waters. Second to none service approach with completely dedicated staff despites their young age and the fact the hotel has only been open recently. With the Wynn / Encore (High end casino type), the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta must be currently the best address in town.
