This hotel is what you would expect of a Marriott - goods rooms, comfortable beds, good restaurants, free wifi (perhaps because I am a rewards member), pleasant staff and so on.
But it is details that make or break a stay. Check-in was a pain. Even though I checked in at 430pm my "guaranteed" room type was not available. I had booked a King bed smoking room and was only offered a twin-bedded non-smoking room. After much unnecessary arguing we compromised on a King Bed non-smoking. A request to know what "guaranteed" meant was ignored or perhaps just not understood.
After check in I needed to top up my local phone - on the XL network - one of the country's largest networks. I went to the business centre to do this. I was told this was a service they normally provided but they had "run out" of top up cards. I was directed to a nearby building to do it. Not much fun walking around Jakarta.
It was, however, raining. I was told I could get an umbrella from the concierge desk, which is not in the hotel building but at the front of the driveway where the security checks are by the road. I went there but the umbrellas had also "run out." I was told, without a trace of humour, that this situation only happens when it rains. Apparently if you need an umbrella on a sunny day - they can provide it no problem.
The concierge did state there was an umbrella in my room. So I returned to the 18th floor but no - there was no umbrella in the room. So I went back downstairs and simply got wet.
Returned sodden and decided to have a glass of wine in the room. A decent drop of red in the minibar? Yes - a half bottle of an Italian red that will do just fine. A corkscrew? No chance. A call to the "At your Service" button could shed no light on whether there was meant to be a cork screw in the room - the operator had no idea. After waiting about 20 minutes a further call to the "At your Service" to emphasize that this was not a generic question, and since there wasn't a corkscrew in the room I would like one. It arrived about another 30 minutes later by which time I had given up on the wine and popped a couple of tins of beer instead.
Details, details, details. Reception not prepared. Business centre not prepared. Concierge not prepared. Items missing from room and staff no idea what is and is not in the room.
So decent rooms but lacking attention to details.
