“Hurry Before you Need A 6 Month Wait for a Reservation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012 via mobile

French food, fine dining and unbelievable ambience and service. If you are longing for Nova Scotia lobster cooked as though you are still in Canada then hurry a featured special. If a magnificent wine list and a cheese platter is your wish then try it.
The friendliness of Chef owner Gilles who works the room like a maestro then again book early book often.

“Among the best in Jakarta, but not comparable to similar restaurants abroad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

Been to Amuz several times and it is definitely one of the best restaurants serving international food in Jakarta. It is beyond any doubt also one of the most expensive restaurants in Jakarta. The food is classical French cuisine and generally well prepared. As one expects from this type of restaurant the menu is limited but with a variety of choices between fish, seafood, beef, lamb, pork, poultry and even rabbit dishes. Unfortunately, Amuz also falls victim to the endemic disease among restaurants in Jakarta: non availability of items on the menu. When I went a few days ago, several items on the menu were not available. Separately, paying a lot of money is not always a guarantee for excellent quality. My steak with foie gras I chose as a main was cooked to perfection, but one of my guests' foie gras starter was nearly raw!
Amuz has a very good wine list, but expect to pay serious money for a good bottle of wine.
The service is OK, but as is common in Jakarta, the staff does not have the experience you would expect internationally from restaurants in this price category. They certainly are not experienced in serving wine as was obvious from pouring the sediment in our bottle into the glass.
The decor of the restaurant is modern and pleasant which is very refreshing for Jakarta.
In summary, one of the best choices for special occasions in Jakarta, but not comparable to restaurants charging similar prices in other parts of the world.

“Excellent french cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

We went there on a saturday night in July and the restaurant was moderately filled with mostly Asian patrons. Athmosphere is sort of sober and elegant but still very pleasant. Far from the usual rustic and supposedly french fake-countryside overload. We considered it a nice touch to see the chef walking around and talking briefly to his patrons and in general the way this restaurant is run, is the opposite of presumptuous - in contrast to other "french" restaurants in Jakarta. At Amuz we found it is about food, really. Overall the menue has a good range of french or at least french insipred dishes. A slight disappointment was that at 8 o'clock they had already run out of the scallop carpacio I decided on for a starter but my second choice, the celery paté, turned out to be an excellent substitute. As a main I had a perfectly cooked oven roast duck and my husband had oysters "au champagne" as a starter and an excellent Wagyu steak for main. All of it was truly excellent, preparationwise, tastewise and also in terms of presentation. As was the cheese selection we had for dessert. The osyters, although very nice tastewise were just a tad too big to really be enjoyed; there is indeed a let's say esthetical limit when it comes to the size of oysters. Overall we did enjoy the evening and certainly the food and we do recommend AMUZ fully to anyone who wishes to spend a pleasant evening with refined food in an elegant and calm athmosphere. It is not cheep though, especially the wines - sadly so - are almost as expensive as they are all over Jakarta, and a full meal for two with two aperitives, two starters, two mains, two cheese platters, a bottle of wine and two espressi it will set you back around 2,5 to 3 Million Rupiahs easily. Not so good was, that only at home we realised that on our bill was the scallop carpacio (199.000) they had run out of and which I did not eat, instead of the alternative starter I finally decided on and which was much cheaper (135.000 if I recall that correctly). That certainly did not happen by purpose but running out of a dish early evening is one thing - paying it without having eaten it, is a bit annoying and this should not happen at all in a place like that.

“Outstanding French Cuisine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2011

If you're looking for a hip place with great food where you can dine among some of Jakarta's glitterati, this is one of your places. The decor is modern, angular but the choice of light brown colors for the walls and fabrics lend a warm feel to the somewhat intimate dining room. I'd recommend they dim the lights a bit more for a cozier ambience.

This was my second visit and the meal was no less extraordinary.

Avoid the table in the center of the room, unless you prefer a constant draft from the overhead A/C.
