“A quiet home away from home...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

As the title suggests the Morrissey Boutique Serviced Apartments gives the impression of a very zen-like home away from home. In my mind it's perfect for business travelers or those who want a more quiet and laid-back setting.

Simply walking into the Morrissey Apartments is a pleasant experience as the interior is well decorated and clean. All of the staff are very polite and were eager to meet our requests for taxis or assistance with room-related requests such as kitchen utensils and toiletries. Another positive is the low population within the building - it always seems quite quiet and it's never long to wait for an elevator.

A basic room at the Morrissey is more spacious than basics at most other hotels. Clever use of space means the 29 sqm seems quite large and features a sofa as well as a kitchenette. Chic furnishings make it seem more boutique and designer than basic rooms at the higher end hotel chains as well. However, as mentioned by others there is some very very light noise that comes from the mosque and the sun-shades aren't strong enough to completely block incoming light.

Other features such as breakfast buffet, rooftop pool, residents lounge, gymnasium and sky garden were all pretty nice additions to the hotel and great for the price. It's even got a self-serve laundry room which opens 24/7 so you're able to get your washing done quickly and easily. Great if you're planning a longer trip!

Overall, staying at Morrissey was excellent compared to the other hotels throughout Indonesia. A couple of minor adjustments would make it pretty much perfect but it's already exceptional value at the ~$70 AUD per night paid.

Room Tip: Not sure about the orientation of the rooms. Sound of the mosque in 912 was a lot quieter than 907 b...

“Love Everything!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Everything in this hotel makes us feel we're not in crazy traffic Jakarta eventhough they're in crazy busy location, right in the central of Jakarta. Easy Check In, they served apple at the front office. the room is always my favorite. Feel like we're in somewhat Western Country. The surrounding was very quite and private, which Me and My Husband like. The pool is small but divinely nice (glasses pool), and they have this living room on the same floor as the pool. Very modern interior and feels homy. Breakfast simple but right taste for foreigner.

“Good centrally located hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Good, centrally located hotel/serviced apartment. Not the quietest hotel I have ever stayed in (two floor-to-ceiling windows facing a big mosque didn't help -- double-glazing would have), but comfortable, well thought out living space. Reasonable work area and reasonable internet connection. The lobby area -- where breakfast is served -- is small (when the hotel is full it can be a scrum to grab a table. Outside on the terrace is a man making bespoke omelets and waffles -- much better than the slightly tired food at the buffet. Fruits juices, in particular, were poor. The fresh fruit was not quite ripe. The usual Asian/Indonesian breakfast foods weren't really up to it. The Italian-ish (what Italian restaurant would have hamburgers on the menu? They were good, however) restaurant attached to the hotel is excellent. Clearly it's a meeting point for Jakarta's yuppies. The night I ate there several parties -- including a fun/fancy-dress/slightly raucous hen's night/engagement party -- were in full swing. Nevertheless the service was good and the food fine. Also good is the pale green fronted Indonesian restaurant across the street and 100 meters to the right. To get there you have to walk the gauntlet of street food vendors at night. Smelled great, but I lacked the courage to try any of it.

Excellent bed. Sleep quality would have been higher but for the very early morning call for prayers. There are 2 or 3 mosques near the hotel. The call to prayer at one was so melodious that it could seduce even a non-believer. Unfortunately the call to prayer at the other mosque was of the badly distorted, overly amplified sergeant-major type.

The staff were friendly but not very well-informed.

Tip: lower the black-out shade when you leave the room for the day. Otherwise the room will be baking when you return.

Would I stay again? Yes.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't face the mosque. Or earplugs.

“second time around, still amazed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

I stayed for a night, check-in was again...swift and courteous. Room was still great, booked a smoking room on the 4th floor. Found a very nice touch in a form of a fruit-choco christmas cookie, taste good too :) Breakfast was awesome! Mozarella tomatoes and spinach picatta..who would thought? I had two of each..LoL. Taxi are always easy to find.. Hopefully Morrissey can maintain their high quality, looking forward to return. A slight minus point, internet at the business centre is waaaaay too expensive... minimum one hour too! It's not that fast :( I won't mind paying that amount for a blazing fast connection.

Room Tip: I got room 428, faces the west...nice sunset light and quiet too..

“great hotel, excellent facilities, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

Overall a great hotel. Something you need in a rather horrible city like Jakarta. great value for money (80 USD/night)

Room: according to latest standard. good pillow selection, spacey room. insulation of the door could be a bit better. Window to outside could be slightly larger as well, but nonetheless it's a great room. Only flaw, the toilet door is not soundproof at all, so you don't want to take a dump while someone is in the room.

food: buffet was fairly good. good selection and good quality. the Italian restaurant inside the hotel is excellent, worth the money.

pool: nice pool, could be a bit longer for swimming, but the marvelous view makes up for it.

gym: a bit too minimalistic. A couple of additional machines, weight would help.

Overall it's an excellent hotel.
Just make sure you don't stay too long. Jakarta is an awful city and there is barely anything to see as a tourist, nor to do. Except you like wandering around in malls.

Room Tip: the street view rooms are probably noisier, so try to avoid them.
