This trip was very eye opening for my 15 year old son who was extramely alarmed at the condition of the harbour and the first hour of the boat trip. There is no garbage controll in Indonesia, and in fact at the old harbour one cannot see any part of the Ocean. All that is visable is garbage and more garbage. You will find anything made of plastic here and it is disturbing that such pollution could happen in any capital city of the World.
On the way to 100 islands, our boat needed to stop on many occasions as we hit many garbage islands that filled the boat propelleors with plastic bags and materials.
Once at the Island the experience was better, however not much life in the Sea left. Unless the goverment of Indonesia starts with an immediate cleanup campaign I am afraid that what could be world class will be lost forever!
