We live in the south of Bali, in the Uluwatu area where restaurants are like good Adam Sandler movies, few and far between. One day we were driving the road to the popular Padang-Padang beach when we passed a nice looking restaurant. My enthusiasm quickly evaporated when I noticed from the sign that they were a VEGAN restaurant. I back pedalled faster than that time in Phuket when the pretty girl turned out to have a deeper voice than James Earl Jones.
I guess business wasn’t so good for this vegan restaurant, probably because all the nearby vegans didn’t have the energy to travel to the place, because a few weeks later we drove past the newly re-branded sign “Organic healthy food – Buddha Soul”. Their menu now includes all sorts of dishes, all types of meat, steaks, fish, chicken – they all just happen to be prepared in a very healthy way. I was very happy to learn that you no longer had to be a Greenpeace tree-hugging activist to dine there.
Going directly against my long standing belief that ‘deliciousness is directly proportional to how unhealthy the food is’ the clean organic meals at Buddha Soul are really excellent. For one visit I had a brunch of chicken+veg soup, with a scrambled egg burrito and pancake with syrup.
They all tasted D-apostrophe-elish and it all felt so healthy and wholesome that I went straight home, recycled all our plastic bottles and changed every light to an energy efficient bulb.
