“Telaga Dewata rafting - Absolutely awful. Worst day of our trip.”
Just returned from my trip to Bali, and had to give my review on this company. We were not first time white water rafters; on previous trips to Bali we had gone with another rafting company. Our hotel tours staff suggested this company because it was almost $50USD cheaper than the other company we had been with in the past. This was very appealing to four struggling uni students so we jumped at the chance!
All I can say is, that extra $50USD would have been worth it to avoid rafting with Telaga Dewata. Worst rafting experience of my life. The rafts are smaller than others, and ours was broken - we didn't have a rope that went all the way around the edge so most of the time my boyfriend had nothing to hold onto, and his seat actually broke off the raft while we were in a particularly rough area. Right at the end there is a 4 metre drop, and my friend's helmet flew off his head on the drop because it wasn't fitted properly and the buckle was broken. We were constantly being thrown around in the boat - I banged my knee so hard on a rock through the bottom of the raft that I couldn't walk afterwards. Every time our guide shouted 'BOOM BOOM!' (which means hold on) we had nothing to hold onto because the rope was broken.
There were no lockers or safe storage provided. We had to take our valuables with us on the raft (in a supposedly waterproof bag), but the ride was so rough I'm genuinely surprised my phone survived without a scratch. Anything that we didn't want to take with us, we had to leave on the bus. In such a dodgy village, I did not feel at all safe leaving my things on the bus, especially since they didn't even lock it.
It was without a doubt the most terrible part of our trip. I would have rather gotten Bali belly than rafted with this company.
The only good thing was that we only had to climb 300 steps at the end of the trip, rather than go down that many at the beginning and up at the end. When we finally got to the top we had a 'buffet' lunch provided, that had been left with the lids off for a very long time so the rice and noodles were fly infested. No drinks were provided, not even water. Absolutely disgusting since basically ALL other activities in Bali include water provided. We had to pay for water. The bathroom facilities were disgusting, they smelled terrible and I was afraid to touch any of the surfaces inside.
It took over 3 hours for us to get there, which is as long as it took to fly from Perth to Bali. The whole day was just a total downer and I wouldn't wish that rafting experience on my worst enemy. We definitely regretted not going with the company we knew and loved.
