“Best Hotel we stayed in Tibet. Highly Recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We just returned from Lhasa after having spent 3 nights in this hotel. Tashitakge Hotel made our trip to one of the most rural part of China a memorable and comfortable (to the best extent) journey.

The hotel is very clean, cosy and good value for money. It is well equipped with hot water, warm blankets, humidifier (a must in high altitude) and free wi-fi.

The hostess is very friendly, speaks good English and offered good travel advice (recommended us to visit Grand Canyon and spend more time in Linzi which was one of the best part of our trip).

Through the hotel we booked a Tibetan driver called BaSang (巴桑). 巴桑 drove us around Tibet for 6 days. It was a pleasure to have him with us as he drives really safe along the rocky mountains - one of the best drivers we had! He also made efforts to accommodate our requests such as driving from 6am to 8pm due to our tight schedule, helped us avoid tourist traps, and brought us to extra places to experience the Tibetan culture. Would highly recommend to book this honest and skillful driver for your next visit.

Excellent location in the heart of Barkor Street (old town / central Lhasa). Walking distance to major monestaries. Some 15 minute walk to Potala Palace.

The cute little cat 王小虎 is also a highlight of this hotel.

Unfortunately there was heavy drilling in Barkor Street during our visit so the environment was very dusty.

Would definitely return to this hotel should we visit Lhasa again. We really enjoyed the trip.

We are a group of twelve staying for 3 nights here during our one-week Tibet. We strongly recommend this hotel because of the following:
1) location: situated just around the corner from Bangkor street and Jongkhang temple. That makes a quick evening stroll a pleasant experience if you want to observe the local processions.
2) room: clean, small but very cozy. With heater fan, heater light and electric blankets. The hotel itself has traditional Tibetan decorations. Very warming.
3) staff: the best of it all! The Chinese manager knows everything from locations of shops, restaurants, where to sightsee, etc. The most touching moment for us was when many of our members got altitude sickness, and the manager helped us out a lot: from conselling, giving us medicine to lending us her electric cooker so that we can make instant ramen in the room! The only thing I that she doesn't speak Tibetan.
4) wifi: being a nerd I have they have very good signal, thanks to a gigantic router in the middle of the atrium.
5) food: average breakfast with toast, tea and omelette set. Not much that you can choose but it ets you started for a heavy day ahead.
