“Absolutely amazing stay - Only place in Tibet where is worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Great stay, I highly recommend this place in Lhasa.

food is delicious! Only place in Tibet we loved the food and service.

Ivan Zhao our dedicated butler is still being an amazing person and helping us out with requests.

Juani, an Argentinian manager, made sure our stay was great and personally took charge of arranging a private romantic dinner for us.

We had the pleasure of staying at the St. Regis during a trip to Tibet. The hotel is low-key and has the feel of being very old despite the fact that it is very new. The rooms are very spacious, are equipped with all modern conveniences, and the bathrooms have heated floors, a quick way to dry your hand washing if you do not have much time we were told. The hotel has several buildings and the elevators and outside walkways were a little confusing at first. Even though the restaurant was not quite as impressive as we expected, our stay was very comfortable and relaxed. Exactly what we wanted. The staff were responsive.

Our "standard" guest room was enormous with a sitting area, separate work area and huge bath, plus a small view of the Potala Palace. Beautifully decorated, it definitely had the feel of Tibet. We did not request a palace view so either we were lucky or it was because it was my husband's birthday-our tour escourt ordered a wonderful cake delivered to our room. There were small air canisters available for purchase (35 RMB), along with the usual mini-bar items, just in case you forgot that you were really are at a high altitude. We were on the 6th floor of building 6 and while it was a bit of a challenge to get there the first time, the room was worth it. The lobby is on the third floor so we needed to take the elevator down to ground to walk to our buidling. Path lightening between the buildings during non daylight times would be helpful.
The hotel is close enough to Barkor Street to walk but reception told us what to pay for a cab-we negotiated with a pedi-cab for the amount to get us there. We took a cab on the way back and the driver wanted more money to drive us up to the entrance of the hotel rather than dropping us off on Jiangsu Road! We opted for the street and the hotel's golf cart was there to give us a lift to the lobby.
We had two breakfasts and dinner in the Social restaurant and thought the food was quite good.
Small service things need to be worked out: location of rain shower head and gap in door allow water into the bathroom, windows require a special tool from reception to be closed (or opened), lighting controls are tricky and decided to turn themselves on and off during our last night's stay.
The lovely view of the Potala Palace from the lobby adds to making this hotel a wonderful base for your visit to Lhasa.

I never expected to find such an amazing hotel here. The building is fabulous and from some angles it looks like a modern potala. There is ethnic art throughout the hotel as well as fabulous rugs. The front office staff (especially the concierges) are incredible, they truly cared and made sure we had a great time. One day the concierge even walked down the street with us to hail a cab (not always easy in Lhasa). Our room was huge with a view of the potala palace. It was incredible to see it illuminated at night right from our room. The only thing that needs attention are the restaurants. The Tibetan restaurant only serves a menu, which is ok, except we can't eat that much and there are no exceptions. The Chinese restaurant pretty but very expensive for a Chinese restaurant anywhere. The Cafe which serves breakfast and lighter dishes has good choices but the wait staff definitely needs more training and service was very hit and miss (mostly miss). But all in all the experience here was awesome. The location is great, an easy walk to the center of town. Oh, there is a spa but we had no time to enjoy it.

Room Tip: try to get a room with a view of the potala of course! All the rooms are spacious, ultra modern with...

As a non hotel guest visiting the restraunt I cannot comment about the rooms. However I had a lengthy visit with a friend over dinner in the hotels resteaunt. We had decided against the Tibetan restraunt after a lengthy wait to only find it was a set menu. We decided to have the buffet instead. We shocked at the amount of dirty uncleared tables on our arrival and also the duration of our stay. There was food and cutlery inn the floor in some places of the buffet. The food and buffet it self was fantastic. I am vegetetian and there was still ample to select from. Only issue was trying to get table water took about 10 minitues. It's clear to me after watching the staff the restraunt manager is a very hard working individual who needs better trained floor staff. The lack of training given to the local Tibetan floor staff clearly shows. The food was vaultless but the service needs attention

During my recent visit to Tibet I stayed at the Lhasa St. Regis Resort for totally 5 nights, i.e. from Sept. 6th to 8th, Sept. 9th to 10th and again from Sept. 11th to 13th. The staff at both, the reception as well as the breakfast/dining restaurant were just superb, always friendly, very helpful and service minded. It was a pleasure to stay there and coming back from upcountry visits/stays at different hotels in other locations it was like coming back to paradise. St. Regis did defin. exceed by far my expectations.

Having a re-visit to the St Regis Lhasa. I couldn't forget the wonderful services offered by the butler Rainy, she's a very detailed girl which help to keep track of all your schedules. The detail of the services definitely differentiate this hotel from other 5* hotels.

August is a very good time to visit Lhasa and this hotel is still keep at very good condition. They offer me an option to upgrade me to a suite or a potala view room. I picked a suite which have a central view of the garden which is very comfortable.

I did enjoy the hotel especially the swimming pool, you can call it the golden swimming pool which is the only one to be found in whole world. Yes, it's made of 24k gold tile.

Also tried the Chinese restaurant which is one of the best in Lhasa, the price is not very expensive (actually all dining outlets inside the hotels are very reasonable priced compared with other 5* hotels in top-tier cities, not to mention the St Regis brand).

The only drawback is.. the hotel is now much much more expensive than 2011 which I pay nearly 4000/night.. That's worth the penny!
