“Great hotel into the old city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

It's a good hotel, located in the old city center (few minutes walking from the main square and channels). We had two rooms, quite large, with a nice and modern bathroom. Swimming pool was very nice and confortable (especially after a full day around Bejing at more tha 35° celsius...). Breakfast was great, with an extremely good buffet (more chinese than international but very rich). We had dinner at the hotel in a very nice dining room with a chinese buffet.

Pros: Lively area with lots of shopping. Breakfast buffet good with lots of choices.

Cons: Very hard bed. Dinner buffet poor - not much to offer. Hot tea you have to get yourself but they have no cups only water glasses so you have to hold it with a napkin. Same for Breakfast Buffet. Poor service for coffee. We usually had to get it ourselves.
Must be under rennovation. Lots of load pounding and scraping noises during the day.
Very noisy area with all the traffic and horns. They don't tell you until you get to the pool that they require a swim cap. They will sell you one for 20 yuan but you can get them outside in the shopping area cheaper. They should really provide these at the pool.

Big Hotel but we got poor quality rooms. Airconditioning did not work. ideally located for Confucious ' Temple and river area at night - very good shops - do your souvenir shopping here don't leave it until Shanghai. Cabs are easy to get get. Lots of places to eat around here - KFC and Burger KIng right next door. Standard Breakfast.

Overall, a large and crowded hotel in a crowded area. Rooms probably need to be redone soon.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. The hotel has an 'A' wing and 'B' wing but it wasn't a prison - far from it! We were in 'B' wing, which housed the more expensive rooms, but we didn't see any of the 'A' wing rooms to compare the standard. The building itself looks very smart and, as other reviewers have commented, is well located near a tourist area. The lobby was a grand affair with a rather kitsch water feature featuring a white piano on a pontoon in the centre. Our room felt tastefully decorated and was big enough to cater for an easy chair, pouffe and side table in addition to the usual desk, TV stand (with mini-bar) and suitcase stand. The bathroom had a bath and very welcome separate shower and there were plenty of clean towels for our stay. No complaints about the hotel or our stay.
