We booked our air-tickets to Hong Kong in April, not knowing that it's the peak season then. The hotels in the main island of Hong Kong and Tsim Sha Tsui were either fully booked or out of our budget. Decided to try staying in the islands and considered Lantau Island and Cheung Chau Island. After searching online, found this B&B and decided to give it a go. So, we booked our 1st 3 nights here and the rest of our 3 nights in another hotel in the main Hong Kong island.
We were pretty satisfied with the B&B. Situated a short walk from the ferry pier, it's quiet and yet very near to food and shops. The rooms were very small, but most budget hotels in Hong Kong are tiny, so the room size didn't really bother us. The breakfast was ok, the overall service by the staff was acceptable. We also liked their roof terrace where we can have our dinners and enjoy the view and the cool air.
I highly recommend staying a few nights in Cheung Chau island if you visit Hong Kong. It's only a 30min ride by ferry from Central, Hong Kong. It is so laid back here and life is much slower when compared to Hong Kong island or Tsim Sha Tsui. We enjoyed ourselves immensely walking through their meandering streets, observing local life and even had the chance to sit down with their elderly residents to have a good chat. The seafood in Cheung Chau is also good, but I do suggest comparing prices between a couple of restaurants before settling on one. We went for the restaurant with the most number of patrons and we weren't disappointed. 4 dishes and 2 big bottles of local beer will set you back about USD30.
I enjoyed the stay here much more than our stay in Hong Kong island. Maybe it's because it's my 4th trip to Hong Kong, I am looking for something different, having explored the usual touristy spots in Hong Kong during my previous trips.
