We went as a group of 10 to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. Bear in mind, we all live in HK so our expectations are high (but most of us have been there before).
We'll start with the bar. This bar has an amazing view across the harbour. Unfortunately, it was spoilt by the blinds running down them - I'm sure they have their reasons. The size of the bar is tiny. You can stand around the bar itself, but your view is a lone barman. You have this curvy 'lean on' wall at the back, but then you're looking at the bar. There is ONE table. Our group of 10 took over this table. For anyone who came in after us, they had to stand, or sit by the bar, which seats no more than 3, and face the barman. I reckon this bar should be re-constructured to maximise such a small space. And it's been like this for YEARS. Has nobody ever thought of suggesting this?
Next, the restaurant itself. Think it can do with a facelift. Paying top dollar, you'd expect a beautiful and classy restaurant. It's not bad, but it's not great, and again I think (correct me if I am wrong), it's been like this for years; even decades. Everyone keeps harping on about getting a table by the window. There aren't that many tables by the window, but even if you don't get one, don't worry, the view isn't going anywhere so you're not gonna miss it! 1 point.
The food wasn't bad. I had the duck confit. Having lived in France, I can honestly say that I've had better, but I'm not here to compare ;). The service was very good, but again, alot of (top) restaurants in HK DO have excellent service. The menu is on an ipad. Very novel. I actually appreciated it - the lighting is very low and without the backlight of the ipad, I probably wouldn't have been able to read it :). Presentation of the food was so-so. No big effort made there. We had some very nice Spanish wine, but that's not difficult to find. Alot was paid for the alcohol....
Like most of the reviews written about Felix, the price really is OTT. You can get better, for less, in HK.
You might have read rave reviews about the views from the men's and women's toilets. The ladies' view is the same as the restaurant. The mens' is the 'backside' of the building, facing north and looking up towards TST. Not bad for WCs. 2 points.
Apparently, there is a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights. We were there on a Sunday, so didn't experience the thumping sounds from their rather large stage.
The staff were VERY nice. Not chatty and very polite. We had a bit of a boogie in their 'fun room', which is located directly below the bar, in a small room next to the staircase. For something as simple as lit-up, coloured, plastic, over-sized balls, we had a huge laugh. The waiter looked after us very well :).
If you've got a few dollars to spare, splash out in Felix, just to say that you've been there. Failing that, try Aqua, top of the Langham Hotel in Peking Road, TST. They've got great views too.
