As a restaurant in a luxurious top five-star hotel, it made its way to our option list of restaurants that we may want to visit. When checking the information at Tripadvisor, we were glad to find that Caprice ranks as the number one restaurant in Hong Kong. Wow! Then we decided to pick this restaurant for our special dinner. Then as the Forbes Luxury List also highly recommends this restaurant, we were so sure that we had made the right decision.
The reservation was made about ten days before the dinner day. But what a disappointment, we did not get a table near the window as all the tables there were already booked.
The table that had been reserved for us is located on the elevated area, a bit further away from the windows, but still has beautiful view of Victoria Harbour. Although the seating is less romantic as it is in banquet style, it offers the view of the nice open kitchen. And I have to admit that watching the chef and other cooks preparing the meals in that gorgeous kitchen was a kind of entertainment on its own.
Caprice Receptionist was amazing. She definitely had learned the names of the guests who had reservations because when we arrived and mentioned our name, she recognized immediately and in no time escorted us into the restaurant, passing through the wine cellar as it connects the restaurant reception and the dining hall. What a delightful entry to a restaurant and it certainly made us excited about the wines available for our dinner later on.
The waiters came to our table and greeted us warmly, in a professional way for sure. Their attitude of being professional and yet light extends a relaxing feel for us even though we realized that we were in a special, luxurious restaurant.
The wine list is very extensive and very enticing, too; even for someone who is not a wine lover like me. But for that night, I decided to include wine in the dinner. Caprice offers a good selection of half-bottles; Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux of different estates all make into this half-bottle wine list. Caprice has a wine sommelier that knows wines like the back of his hand; and his service is also excellent.
The food served for a dinner occasion is a journey on its own. Other than the regular appetizer, main course and dessert, Caprice provides complimentary appetizers and desserts that are served before the ordered ones. It was beautifully prepared and presented. It is the very first impression of the food that the guests will taste. We had our first bite, and we just could not believe how good it was. Difficult to describe, but definitely it is a meticulous labour of a very skillful and talented chef (and his team, of course).
Everything was simply delicious and fantastically presented, too. As the food is innovative French, the flavors are properly created and mixed with the traditional ones. The guests will still be able to get a taste of French cuisine, but with a twist. Absolutely delicious. The perfect description about the food will be ‘perfect right from the beginning until the end.’
Dining in Caprice is an experience that we keep on talking about; a story to share with family and friends. It was an exquisite and memorable dining experience. We glad that we made the decision to dine there. No wonder that it is awarded with three Michelin stars.
