“You really just have to go in to look.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

Here you are looking at history. Colonial British especially. The lobby is quite commanding in its architecture and design. If you have the time you could sit, enjoy a drink and imagine you are sharing it with Noel Coward, Princess Diana, Elizabeth Taylor and others.

“A Must To Do .. For Galfrends On A Shopping Trip to HK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

High Tea here is very popular. One should be there at 1pm for the 2pm tea. Just amazing - my galfrends and I decided to do this and treat ourselves to the tune of orchestra from the balcony, silver lined servings and delicious baked goodies to boot. Every women visiting HK should try the opportunity to frock up and sip the amazing assortment of teas. Great service by the staff and one we are looking forward to doing it all over again when in HK next.

“9 hours in Hong Kong”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We arrived at 5:15am at the airport, we had to wait until 6am to take the very civilized train and bus to the Peninsula for a leisurely breakfast, and a stroll for window shopping. Most stores and museums opened at 10, latest 11am. We chose to walk to the harbor for photographing and the ever present school children, on each visit, to question us in English. Charming. A few more stores and a ride back to the airport in time. Much better than sitting in the airport or shopping the sterile stores with long lines at the airport.

“Perfect afternoon tea, but what a queue!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Our only mistake was to believe the waitress we asked in the morning, who said that we should be there at 1.45 pm for the 2 pm afternoon tea. Actually there was already a humungous queue by that time, and we had to wait a solid 1h30. Well, the very nice string quartet helped, as did the Christmas decorations and the general entertainment of people watching. When we finally sat down at our table, things were just as they should have been. Warm and soft scones (I always wonder, all over the British-influenced world, why there are only two per person?), tasty salmon sandwiches, light and delicious cakes, perfect teas. A wholly traditional and satisfying experience. Next time I suppose we'll stay at the Peninsula, in order to be able to book for the afternoon tea...

“Afternoon Tea”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Made the trip from Macau just for afternoon tea. A big fan of the Bangkok Peninsula so it seemed, being so close, that it was only right to make the effort and visit the Grand Dame. You can't book and I am not a fan of queing, at all. Was it worth it? Well to do it once, I guess yes. It was nice, expensive, nice to say we did it but that's about it. So yes, do it if you haven't done it before but no I wouldn't go to those lengths or wait that amount of time again for a decent but not fantastic experience.
