I had gone to Spoon soon after it opened and was very turned off... it was the "hot place" to go in Hong Kong and like many restaurants in Hong Kong, you wree given a reservation and told when you had a to vacate the table. Having accepted this found that the tables were too close together, full of people wanting to see and be seen. The menu was very complicated and at the end of the day, it was just too much work for just okay food. However, the restaurant sat on the Harbour and the view of HK Island was fabulous... however, not THAT good that I ever went back until earlier this month.
I had visitors in town and figured I'd put up with it for the view... have to say that rarely have I ever been so pleasantly surprised! The views are the same but the menu is fabulous and the service is among the best I have ever experienced (and I travel a lot) and certainly THE best I have had in Hong Kong.
The ambience is wonderful, the menu selection was great and the thee presentation of the food is lovely. The wine list is extensive with a wide range of pricing. The service was nothing less than fabulous... attentive without being obtrusive or annoying. And each guest was sent home with a little box of sweets.
People who live on HK Island tend to treat Kowloon like Manhattanites treat outer boroughs and visitors who stay on the island very often fdon't venture out to the "other side" but this restaurant is exceptional and well worth the trip.
