“Nice hotel, somewhat convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

The hotel is very clean and safe, with friendly and efficient staff.

My room was on the 29th floor, and it was impeccable. Internet access was relatively fast, and free with Marriott Rewards membership.

I qualify the location as somewhat convenient since there are no nearby MTR stations, though there is a tram by the hotel.

The hotel does offer a free shuttle to the Hong Kong station, which is attached to the IFC, so getting around is not too much of a problem if you can adjust to the shuttle schedule.

This hotel is located very close to West Tunnel, which takes you to ICC in less than 15 minutes though you have to pay HKD 60 per trip. The high Mariott standard is what you can expect here despite the fact that it is not located at a fabulous place. But hey, if you want to experience the real Hong Kong lifestyle, this is a good place. It is actually in a residential area where you can really see how locals live their life over there.

There is any train station nearby, you got to really pick a taxi to most places but taxi is so cheap in Hong Kong! You pay ~ HKD 350 from airport to the hotel and ~ HKD 35 from hotel to Central & LKF. This is lovely, you are literally 10 minutes away from LKF.

Like any hotels in Hong Kong, the room is tiny but it has everything you need. To keep the Mariott Standard, the cleaners actually make up the room everyday to check-in condition. This is to me, over the line – I did not ask to change my towels but towels are changed everyday. It is a real good thing (credit to them) but this is not environmental friendly.

Overall, nothing to complain about this hotel. Good place with some local food chains around. Ask the concierge, they speak good English! They have shuttle buses to various train stations too. You don’t have to worry about anything! Don’t look further, pick this hotel

One does expect more based on this hotel's rating. It is modern and clean, but rooms are small (as often in HK), noisy (highway and bus stop just outside) and about 15 mins from nearest MTR Sheung Wan. A small incident did not help - my room turned out to be a smoking room, when asking for change they in effect downgraded me - "don't complain". Still, it is a good class affordable hotel for being in HK.

Stayed at this hotel for a week recently on business. very courteous and friendly staff. Very good experience at the reception. Arrived a couple of hours earlier than the check in time and still got a room. The view on the 18th floor was not that great. A city view means you will have equally tall buildings outside your window! But overall a good place to stay. If there is any disadvantage, it is not near the train system. You have to take a cab everywhere and on weekday mornings it used to be a good 15 minute wait.

Room Tip: Try to get a view of the harbour.

I've stayed at most of the Marriott hotels in Hong Kong over the years, but I keep coming back to the Courtyard for the best value and convenient location for my business. Staying out on the western side of the island gives you a feel for how the locals really live and work, and (most days) I really enjoy the (cheap!) tram ride to Central where I work when in Hong Kong. There's a new family park a few blocks away on the waterfront which is great for relaxing during down times. The hotel is comfortable, clean and reasonably priced for the city.

If you want to be in the middle of the action with lots of tourist attractions, it's probably not the best choice for you, but it does have a convenient free shuttle to the busier areas. However, if you are a bit adventurous and like to truly experience a culture, or if you are traveling on a budget and don't mind a little extra time to get to the main commercial areas of Hong Kong, the Courtyard's a great place to stay.

Room Tip: The higher rooms facing the water are more money, for good reason. If you've never been to Hong...

This is a good Hotel for its price, the staff very friendly, rooms good and comfy, the full ocean view I had from my room on the 23rd floor was fantastic, although I arrived very early at the hotel 7am they did give me a room without making a fuss, (normal check in time is 2PM), definitely will go back again when I travel to Hongkong.

This was a 3 night stopover to break up the long trip from UK to New Zealand. We had spent time in HK before, but always on business and in top hotels in Central, so this was the first time we had been purely as tourists and paying for our own accommodation. We had experienced the Courtyard brand once before in Canada with friends, which is why we chose it here.
Friendly reception and concierge staff while the maid kept our room immaculate and well-stocked with tea/coffee and bathroom toiletries. Floor to ceiling windows with harbour views, attractive and spacious shower room, spacious room with large comfortable bed, desk, easy chair, wifi, tv, fridge, kettle, wardrobe, ironing facilities, quiet.
In-house restaurant offered very comprehensive buffet breakfast, including a make-your-own pancake machine for those who enjoy gadgets! Choice of juices, fruit, cheese, cold meats, hot buffet, eggs cooked to order, bread, toast and so on. In the evening also hot buffet choices and an a la carte coffee shop style menu including salads, burgers, pasta and sandwiches plus a reasonable wine list, so something to suit most tastes.
Location at the Western end of Connaught road means the only local options are distinctly local Hong Kong style restaurants - we found a couple with English menus but were the only Europeans there and didn't get much help with ordering so ended up with far too much food as all dishes seemed to serve about six and we didn't happen to have an extended family with us! Nowhere obvious close by to go for a drink and no hotel bar, so we were dependent on having a bottle of wine in our room, which is ok after long flight/ long day sightseeing, but the area doesn't really offer you the choice.
However transport links are good and cheap - the hotel shuttle into different parts of town and back from the bus station under Exchange square was free and useful at certain times of the day. You could easily walk to the Western Market ( mainly fabrics) and there were buses along Connaught Rd. We particularly enjoyed riding the tram along the road behind the hotel into town and then connecting with buses at Exchange Sq to go to Stanley Market or walking up to the Peak Tram station.
This was a mid-priced hotel in an expensive city which worked well as a base to explore from, but was definitely in a noisy, busy, full of local food shops Chinese area, rather than a tourist vacuum, although the area seemed perfectly safe.

Room Tip: Harbour view is always fascinating.
