“JJ Hotel nice spacious room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

The hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from the MTR Wan chai stop. It was not very easy to locate the hotel since its small lobby/reception is on the 9th floor. The room was spacious at JJ Hotel and for the similar price range (US$100+per night), JJ hotel was much better than others. Spent only a night there though. The lobby is small and has homely feel with a courteous staff present at all times. The bathroom with glass walls was also bigger than most hotels. I am glad my room was on the 10th floor and it is quieter. I imagine the 9th floor could be little busy and disturbing due to the reception office. Does not usually watch TV but really wanted to watch the NBA finals but that was missing. Maybe they didn't have pay channels. Overall, it was worth the spend.

The hotel has a good location for tram, bus and ferry. The rooms have a good size for just popping in to sleep but would not do if you intend to stay in to relax. The beds are quite hard but I do not mind this. I did miss some extra pillows as these were to thin. Reception was not able to help me with this. The bathroom has glass walls, but the curtains shield it from the room very well. You would need to be a peeping tom to see anything going on in the bathroom

The hotel can get quite noisy at night. We were well away from reception on the same floor as them but were able to hear their printer all the way from our room. There was also some noise from other guests and the air conditioning can get quite loud. Also be aware they ask a deposit of 500 HKD. Not sure why as there is no minibar or anything worth taking as a souvenir.

Room Tip: Ask a room away from the elevators and not on the 9th floor

I just came back from my HK trip last week. I booked a room via booking.com for a standard double bed room. Cost me about 2500HKD, and be advised the hotel takes deposit of RM500 upon arrival.

Location:
If you are coming from airport, just take the MTR and get down at Wan Chai. You must take A3 exit to be nearest to the hotel. We had a little difficulty finding the hotel. Upon exit just cross the roads & walk to left. When you are familiar, just take a Tram frm hennessy rd & drop off in front of MTR wan chai Exit A3. Food are good with many choices.

Check In:
Just go to 9th Floor on the lucky centre & you will see a small reception, the was no ppl whn we checked in, so no waiting or no fancy hall room. HKD500 deposit

Rooms:
Considering HK is expensive city, rooms are acceptably large, not too large or too good. But all we need was there. Hot Water kettle, coffee & tea, mineral water, safe box & comfortable beds.
Nothing to fancy about. but it was just as comfortable.

Don't expect awesome views, as they are facing the city with high rise buildings, but there's something to see anyway. Room is clean & neat, and house keeping keeps it neat everyday.

Most importantly, i felt safe staying here, the reception speaks english! If you plan to go HK Disneyland, just buy the ticket at reception, you don't have to wait in line!

Only one small hiccup during the stay, the access card wasn't working, but whn we went down to reception they replaced it immediately & this hotel is a little hard to find if you dont get a map, gps or some research about it.

Positive points are, close to public transport (bus and metro), shopping areas, restaurants, clean quiet, comfortable, spacious rooms and helpful staff. Room charges are reasonable. About 30 minutes from airport and airport bus does not know this hotel. The address has to be mentioned to drop you at right stop. From the bus stop, it is three quarter of a Km to the hotel. If you are carrying heavy luggage, better take a taxi from bus stop to hotel. Hotel is on a main road and easy to find. A chinese restaurant is right in the building and many others around. Appeared safe area. If departing flight is in evening, be careful to start early as the buses to the airport are infrequent later in the day. The bus fare is reasonable and less than metro fare. Avoid taking metro as it is almost 1.5 km from metro station to the hotel.

Room Tip: Even rooms facing street are quiet.

The hotel located in Wan Chai right behind Hannessy Road. The reception is on the 9th floor and is very small. The receptionist was helpful. They upgraded us and we had a spacious room with a king size bed. the room is very clean room. The view is not great but you have a large window to see others buildings. The bed is comfortable. The bathroom is a little outdated and see through, but is clean. The location is great. It's easy to go everywhere. Transit is closed by. There are many different types of restaurants and shops. Anything you need is right there. It is affordable and I recommend this hotel. I certainly will return.

I had been to HK for over 10times, and this is the BEST hotel I have ever stayed in.

Easy to find, was greeted by a nice fragrance at the building lobby. JJ takes up 4 floors in the building, and the building is very clean & pristine, which gives really good vibes.
There is always a lift waiting at the lobby, and can fit around 3 people with 2 luggages.

Staff are professional & polite, though not overly friendly.

The room is fantastic, very spacious for the price & HK standard & also well-used / designed space for the limited space in the room. The choice of materials & furniture used in the room are very good quality as well. My room with window has a lovely view that allowed me to see the Peak (i believe!)

The bed is so comfortable, I can't wake up the next day to go shopping / sightseeing cos it was so good to sleep in. There were good channels on TV, and a full fledged hotel amenities in-room. The room / hotel / building was also very clean, and the chambermaid is very meticulous and attentive, but not too environment friendly as they change all the towels everyday even though I chose not to change some. Something for the hotel to consider. The sound-proofing of the rooms were great as well, had a lot of privacy & quietness in the room even though my room is near the main door of the floor (10th). The Wifi is very strong, stable & power. Pity my room doesn't have a bathtub but that's the least of my concerns.

The area around the hotel is great as well, with a Wellcome supermarket right at the basement of the building (don't have to walk in the rain), and a 24-hr MacDonald's just across the road. It is also near to transport (MTR, Tram, buses) & easy to get a taxi by the road side. It is also very close to Causeway Bay.

Cons: the water heater was a little difficult to manage, had to turn on the water for quite a while for the water to heat up.. waste water.... And then sometimes it goes hot & cold during the bath.

I am unsure if I want to recommend this gem as I worry that I may not get a room next time due to popularity & I got the room at a very good price, and PLEASE KEEP TO THAT PRICE!! Will stay again!!

When you arrive at "Lucky Center" on Wan Chai Road and see the entrance to the building, you may have second thoughts. I'm glad I searched it online and printed out the Google Map photo (have NO idea how I actually found it!). You go into a tiny "lobby area" where there is a 24-hour doorman at a desk and take one of the three tiny elevators to floor 9, turn left and take a few steps to the hotel "lobby" (I'm guessing 6x10 feet in size). But, after the initial shock, I was greeted, given the paperwork and my key. Then, back into the elevator because the "hotel" is on floors 10-12. I was in room 1002, floor 10 across from the elevator. There was never a problem with noise, however. My room was small, but not miniscule, clean, modern, and with a window (there ARE rooms without windows, according to the website). You don't have a harbor view - but you're not paying $400 a night, either. The view is over the lower buildings (businesses along the street and some lower apartments) to some skyscrapers. Nothing spectacular - pretty typical of Hong Kong. There was a king bed, in-room safe, coffee maker, tv, possibilitiy of renting DVDs, and a very intriguing bathroom (clear glass walls to the entrance and the bed (and window). However, after the "surprise", there ARE shades inside the bathroom that can be lowered for privacy. The initial impression is funny - now. The price was VERY reasonable. On the 5th floor of the same building is a restaurant called "Megan's Kitchen" and it is VERY popular. The first night I was there it was fully booked for a large group which had taken over the whole place (the night before May 1st). The second night I went and was very pleased by the food and prices. Again, you would NEVER know that there were a hotel AND a well-known restaurant in this non-descript building. I'd definitely recommend both the JJ hotel and the restaurant.

Room Tip: The restaurant is separate from the hotel but they have a sample menu in the room. I think there may...
