While this hotel might be considered a 5 star hotel, it does not feel like one. First, this hotel has cheapened itself by its agreements for so many tour groups to come here. There are frequently tour groups arriving by the busload and the lobby always stays busy even late at night. You don't really get to enjoy a quiet relaxed atmosphere in the lobby like other 5 star hotels.
Second, the service at this hotel is certainly not 5 star quality. The housekeeping is minimal. They will make your bed, restock your bathroom amenities, and take out the trash. But they didn't reorganize and tidy up my belongings for 4 out of the 5 nights. Only on the last night did the housekeeping did a thorough job that was expected of a 5 star hotel. They were slow to respond to requests such as when I needed ice, wine glasses or needed a bottle of wine opened. On top of that, the glasses they provided were dirty and I had to wash the glasses before use.
Third the concierge needs better training. They aren't very good at recommending shops and places to go. They will often just tell you a street or area to go to instead of a specific location.
Fourth, the room has a lack of power outlets and the available power outlets aren't compatible except 1. I had to request them to bring a power strip and at first they were reluctant, only bringing adapters. I had to insist again before they finally brought the power strip I requested.
Fifth, there are no public bathrooms in the lobby. One had to use the public bathroom in the mall that is connected to the hotel.
Sixth, management is cheap. There are times when I rode the elevator and the air conditioning was barely on. After inquiring at the concierge, they admitted the management intentionally cut back on the air conditioning. When I complained to the manager, he lied and said it was the fault of the elevator maintenance company and it could only be fixed in the morning. But when I came back later in the night, the elevator was cool again.
With all the negatives aside, this hotel is located in a very convenient location. There are shopping malls connected and adjacent to this hotel which makes dining and shopping very convenient and easy. The subway station is fairly close. The room itself was spacious especially in Hong Kong where space is a premium. The bed while not as soft as the beds in a Marriott or Hilton, are still pretty comfortable.
I stayed in Tower 1 and I was glad I picked a harbor view room not just for the great view, but because it allocated my room on the 39th floor. This was very important as the masses from the tour group almost all stayed on the lower floors and one can only imagine the noise they generated from their coming and going. So because I was on the 39th floor, it was very quiet.
This hotel is certainly very affordable considering the high cost of hotels in Hong Kong. So despite the negatives, I would consider coming back due to the sheer convenience and spaciousness of the room for the price although next time I would probably shell out a bit more money to stay in Tower 2 where it seems to have much less people staying there.
