“Very centrally located!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

The rooms are very small and without cupboard for clothes,
but it seems to be standard in HK.
Our room in the 6 floor was very quiet and clean. The staff was friendly.
Free WILAN and the aircon works good.
The TV had only 4 regional channels.

Not good are the beds which were really hard and let us not good sleep.
The hostel lay very central and that was really the best!

I was very pleased that when the booking email exchange I had with New Yiu Fai Guesthouse was smooth and quick. It was a bit difficult at first to locate the building but we eventually did. It was really close to the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station. The elevators were very small though but it was able to bring us and our luggages to the reception at the 5th floor (or was it 6th?).You can immediately buy CHEAPER Disney and Ocean Park tickets once you check in. It was actually my first time to stay in a hostel in Hong Kong and I thought it was going to be like the hostels in Europe. Let me just say though that the room we stayed in was really small! Maybe because we were 5 people in 1 room but we barely had room to move around in. Toilet and shower was also very cramped but I guess this is normal for Hong Kong. The pullout bed also could hardly fit my friend, I think you have to be 4 feet tall to be comfortable. But for the price, I think this is what we paid for.

I like that it's great for people on a budget and also had budgeted tickets but if I were traveling in a bigger group, I'd definitely choose a different hotel or at least get 2 rooms. I liked the location in Mira better though even though it's also on Nathan Road. Overall, it was an okay stay.

A tiny little room, hard to find, expensive. The location, Tsim Sha Tsui, was good though.

The proprietor entered my room while I was in bed to dig through the drawers looking for something the previous guest had left. English was not spoken but I knew that the woman waiting in the hallway had left something. A surreal experience.

Room Tip: stay somewhere else

This is our 7th time to Hong Kong and we've stayed in different types of accommodation in HKG (i.e. Disney's Hollywood Hotel, BP International Hotel, Panda Hotel, Guandong Hotel, Shamrock Hotel, Golden Crown Guest House, Yiu Fai Guest House, and most recently at Hao's Inn Guest House).

We have since been familiar with the location AND price of hotels/hostels in TST area and I would say that the accommodations we've had in Golden Crown building housing the Golden Crown, Yiu Fai and Hao's Inn by far suits any budget conscious travellers like us. For us, we have learned through the number of times we went to HKG that no matter how expensive or grand the hotel where you stay - it doesn't really matter at all. It's because you are bound to be ouf of the hotel the whole day and would practically be using the place only for refreshing and sleeping. So, why pay for more where you can get some place cheaper. The savings can be used to pay for other expenses, right?

At first sight of Hao's Inn (formerly Wonderful Inn), I was feeling hesitant because we originally booked with Yiu Fai Guest House, after we couldn't get a booking with Golden Crown Guest House. Turned out that Hao's Inn, being perhaps the older of the other guest house is better. Having more space in the rooms, has a small sofa/lobby where guests can stay, a big refrigerator with cold mineral water, microwave, water heater with lots of sugar sachets in the drawers, stocks and supplies are replenished regularly without fail, with efficient and polite staff to assist to your needs, We are at the 10th floor at that time and occuppied 3 rooms, we never felt there are other guests except us.

Location wise, once you step outside of the building, it's Nathan Road already and you'll never get lost nor hungry when you're in TST. It was truly an enjoyable stay at Hao's Inn and we're already planning a July 2014 and March 2015 trips again to HKG. Definitely will book for Hao's Inn or Yiu Fai as they are one family owned hostels anyway.

This review is long over due however i still felt the need to share my experience staying twice in this hostel, and both times traveling with a group of friends on a "tight budget".

The location is one of the best things about this hostel, and we walked to and fro Tsim Sha Tsui from here. The airport bus stop is right across the street making it easy to get there from the airport (with luggages in tow) and the MTR station is just around the corner.

Although the building (Golden Crown Court) itself is a bit old, it is surrounded by business establishments (standard chartered bank is located at the ground floor of the building), shops and fast food restaurants are all over the area. In my opinion this is a far better location than the hundreds of hostels cramped at the mansions (chungking and mirador).

In terms of price, the hostel is relatively cheap especially if you are travelling with a bigger group.

Raymond, the manager is also easy to deal with. We reserved the rooms via email, to which he responded quite promptly and we settled the deposit via paypal which he also confirmed via email.

Their hotel staff/cleaner who is a Filipina is quite helpful in giving directions as well as translating our requests to the owners of the hostel.

Although admittedly the room is as basic as basic could get, with absolutely no frills. The rooms were very small and a bit old. For bigger groups (the quadruple room) you were bound to have bunk beds. The shower required a bit of a wait before the water heater starts to work. However, overall given that we had the right expectations for the price we paid i would say that yiu fai is a steal.

Also, i wanted to mention that the owners deserve a thumbs up for being fair and reasonable when my friends who bought tickets to disneyland from them (the tickets were a bit cheaper if bought at the hostel as they have discounted yearly tickets i suppose) did not check the actual tickets and only when they got to disneyland did they realize that they were given the wrong ones (it was for another park). They had to buy new ones but when they got back to the hostel and explained the mix up to the owners, they immediately accepted it and refunded her the whole amount, no questions, no arguments.

I would recommend Yiu Fai and probably stay there again if i'm traveling with friends on a strict budget - the price was right, the location was excellent and the owners are easy to deal with.

My family is fond of travelling abroad at least once a year and yes...all the kids included! and since we are a BIG group, it is best to travel on a budget (as far as booking accommodations are concerned!) while taking comfort of the kids in consideration. Hence, we booked four deluxe rooms all on the 5th floor where wifi signal is good. The rooms are of course small, but well kept. the cleaning lady is a fellow Filipina and very courteous. She speaks chinese well and she helped us communicate with the receptionist (Raymond was not around when we checked in) when we bought the discounted tickets to Disneyland and Ocean Park. The location was ideal when taking public transport (A21 Bus). So, it was 'no sweat' with the kids and the luggage when we were looking for the hostel. By foot, the harbour is very accesible and plenty of 7-11 stores around. The Kowloon park is just across the street where the kids enjoyed running around (and where the adults enjoyed the food hawked by Indonesians). I would recommend this hostel...in fact...i'll be back this March! :-D

We occupied 2 triple rooms for 3 nights with 6 friends. Our first room was in the sixth floor but we were moved to the 10th floor the next day which I think is better since the wifi signal there was pretty fast. Our room was cleaned once a day and we also had an en suite shower with hot water. We also had free towels and toothbrush kits which I think was great. Free slippers too!hehe The location of the guesthouse is perfect and very easy to find. The people in the front desk were helpful although some had difficulty speaking in English. Overall, I will definitely stay here again if ever I'll be back in HK for the 3rd time.

Room Tip: 10th floor has good wifi signal.
