“Affordable and Commendable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

HongKong probably has the most expensive accommodation ever. This was confirmed to us by our tour guide as she mentioned paying US$2,000 for her condominium. For travelers, you'll never find a cheaper place to sleep at that would not carry with it stories of horror and suspense like in the infamous Chungking Mansions and Mirador Mansions. Nonetheless, we found NEW Yiu Fai Guesthouse. Indeed a safe haven for an exhausted tourist in one of the most expensive city in the world. The building itself houses other inns and guesthouses but the New Yiu Fai got one of the top ranks here in Trip Advisor and we may say we hit the jackpot when the owner, Raymond, really reserved a room for us though we checked in late from our Shenzhen tour. We were a bit disappointed with the slow WiFi connection (Rm. D5) and having twin beds when we initially asked for a triple en suite room but what more can we complain when it was just in a perfect location. It takes a few steps to reach the MTR and across it is the A21 bus stop going to the airport. Furthermore, it will only take a 15-minute walk to get to China Ferry Terminal (located inside a mall) for a Macau trip.

We did not find the entrance immediately as we missed the sign of Golden Crown Court but the police patrolling in the Chungking Mansions helped us with no hesitation. The building has two gates and we prefer the one at the side as its elevator has access to every floor beginning the 4th whereas the two elevators at the front gate separates the odd and even numbered floors.

The receiving area was a bit daunting but not the staff. They were mostly pleasant and tried to communicate in English the best way they could. The room was big enough for Hong Kong standard and we had a cold and hot shower. They also provided free toothbrush, toohpaste and two pairs of sandal which were very useful on our last night as we stroll the Ladies' Market.

Room Tip: Request for a room with a stronger WiFi signal if you're into social networking and other busine...

there are two yiu fai in the same building, one is yiu fai anf the other one is new yiu fai. i booked the guest house through trip advisor review but i got the shock when i didn't realize until it was too late and i already made the down payment and it was the old yiu fai, not the new yiu fai. what's funny is that upon arriving in the building both competing guest house receptions are located in the same floor. but overall it was still very good, stayed for three nights and i requested a room with windows. you can hear the banging of doors in the neighboring room but the room is very clean, toilet is small but acceptable, water pressure is good with hot water, abd the aircon is really cold so can't really complain. for their price, its worth the money since you will just go back to sleep. their wifi is really good and its free. so i dis not have problem with my stay. it is very safe outside and not scary luke the chunking mansions which is just a block away. the location is perfect, when you go out its literally nathan road so shoppung is easy. restaurants nearby makes it all more convenient and subway literally few steps away.

Stayed here 3+1 nights on the back end of our SE Asia backpack trip with Macau inbetween.
Even though the price tag was scary compared to SE Asia this was still a steal for HK standards.
Upon arriving you are walking around with you gear in one of the busiest streets in downtown HK and it'll be a bit difficult finding the entrance at first due to bustling Nathan Road. The aggressive watch and handbag sellers might have something to do with it as well! Needless to say the location is tip top. Especially since your room will be up high so no sleep is lost.
The room itself is just part of your HK experience... Having to cope with a tiny room way up high with no windows is just part of the deal of visiting HK on a budget. Hey, at least there are bathrooms in most (if not all) rooms! Just don't go crazy on the shopping front because you have to barricade the door with shopping goods in order to have sapce to move about hahaha!
We could leave our big bags in the guesthouse (though not in the room) when we travelled to Macau for a day and night worry free. Unfortunatly no Raymond for us but a none english speaking (family)member running the desk. But when in a bind they'll call someone to translate the question. Funny stuff.
So when you are enjoying the city from dusk till dawn and want a safe and quiet home to stay at night this is just the place. Nothing fancy but just right.

Yiu Fai Guesthouse! Perfect location MTR and A21 bus from and to airport just outside the buidling. Clean rooms (rooms cleaned and towels replaced everyday), good hot and cold shower, and a very helpful owner (Raymond). Just the best place to stay for sleep and rest while touring HK the whole day. Originally booked at Yiu fai, but we apparently stayed in a room marked "Hao's Inn". Not a problem, both guesthouses are managed by the same group anyway. Rooms are small.. but what do you expect when you are in one of the most expensive cities in the world. The Room size wasnt an issue with us, and i got a lot of feedbacks that its a lot better than neighboring hostels such as those in Chungking and Mirador. Reservation was a breeze, Raymond Promptly responds to your email, gave us $400 HKD rate per night (double private ensuite). A downpayment reservation fee via paypal is all that's needed and you're all set. THe only thing i was unsure of is if Yiu Fai or new Yiu Fai Guesthouse are connected (they're on the same floor) but rates are different. Will Definitely be back.

Room Tip: The Rooms "small" LCD TVs are equipped with a USB port. Channel choices are minimal, so if...

This place is simply the best. The place are beautiful, the rooms are wonderful and the bed is really comfortable. We found the service to be very good also - very nice, very appropriate and definitely "on" most of the time. And all in all, this place provided us with an experience we will not soon forget.

I am not sure if there is another Yiu Fai Guesthouse, but here is the website: www.yiufaiguesthouse.com/index.html

Here are the details/reviews:
- I booked Twin Bedroom via email and Longson, responded promptly. Deposit is done via paypal,(first night) then the rest will be paid in cash.
- Good Location. In Tsim Sha Tsui (tsuen wan line), exit in A2 (Nathan Road and Humphrey's Road), you will see Citibank, facing Nathan Road, beside it is Golden Crown Court. It is not crowded and no people coming at you to lure you to other hostels (I saw this when I pass by the infamous Chungki mansion.) They are at Flat E, 5th flr. I think, Hao's Inn and this one have the same owner :). Anyhow, when you step out of elevator on 5th floor, you will see Wonderful Inn, just turn left (you will see a clothing/tailor shop?), just turn left again and you will see it!
Its also near Avenue of stars, Star Ferry and shopping areas, and ferry boat to Macau
- Good Service. FYI. the two receptionists there dont speak much english so its hard for them to communicate, but they do try their best (it may come off as snobbish, but they are friendly). The cleaning lady is a Filipina :) she speaks good English and Chinese, but she is only there in the morning to clean the rooms - nonetheless, a great help to explain things to the receptionists.
Raymond/Longson - the owner, he goes there from time to time.
They also sell cheap tickets to Ocean Park, DisneyLand, Ngong Ping 360, Peak Tower and also Macau Tickets (ferry) - cash payments only.
They also have water dispenser so you take a refill, there are also available tea and hot water.
- Clean Rooms. Cleaning lady change towels, linens everyday and of course clean the rooms!
- Safe. They give you two sets of keys, one for the gate and your room. The whole building is safe.

I must say though, the walls are not that thick, so its bad when you have noisy neighbors and you can hear people talk outside. The room is not that big and so is the bathroom but for me, its okay. For two people who always go outside to enjoy the city, its a good place to stay. I would recommend this to people looking for a cheap but safe place to stay with good location (in Kowloon). I would stay here again.
