“Excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

We stayed as a couple at this hotel and its distance from the main city did not bother us; we actually loved the calm and peace of the surroundings. Its proximity to Ngong Ping 360 further helped us in choosing this place to stay. Plus the Tung Chung station is right next to the hotel and we didn't mind travelling especially since Hong Kong is very well connected.

The rooms at the Executive floor were large by Hong Kong standards and were very well appointed. The buffet breakfast was included in the room package and we thoroughly enjoyed the large spread. Also, there is an attached mall with a seven eleven, so snack and drinks are available at close proximity.

The hotel also provides complimentary drop services to the airport, so there are no headaches of getting stuck in traffic and making travel arrangements. The staff is courteous and welcoming. Will love to stay there again.

This was our 4th times staying in this hotel. We used to stay in this hotel because it is closed to the Citygate outlets which we used to shop in Hong Kong. The hotel rooms are very nicely maintained with useful amenities and the internet speed was impressive and free of charge during our stay in the Premier rooms. The check in service for Premier rooms were impressive and the staff are friendly. But there is one bad experience we had in this hotel was the bell service. They are non-responsive upon our request to help us move our luggage to the lobby upon checkout, we waited for more than 30mins at the end I moved all my luggages (three 25' case, two carry on luggages) with my wife (she had to carry our baby). At the end, it was not that busy at the lobby bell service counter. I will consider other hotel for next visit unless they prove to have improved their bell service.

Dear Sapteo,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide feedback on your most recent stay to Hong Kong.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued patronage of Novotel Citygate over the years, it is very much appreciated.

I am very happy to hear that you have once again thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us in our Premier Rooms, at the same time I would like to sincerely apologize for the poor level of service you encountered when dealing with the Concierge and the Bell service.

I do hope that you give us the opportunity to welcome you back and this one negative aspect of your stay does not take away the positives you have experienced over the years.

Yours sincerely,

Nicholas Cullum

Don't bother requesting early check-in especially at this hotel. They reserve those rooms for the flight crews. So when a frequent user of the Accor Hotels requests an early check-in the desk says sorry didn't get your request wait three hours in the lobby. After getting nowhere with the desk attendant I finally asked for the manager. The assistant manager said he could upgrade me for an increased room rate and that was their hotel policy, I really became annoyed. Finally the assistant manager offered that I could go to the gym and shower and change. After 22 hours of flights I said I would go to another hotel. Only then did he offer a twin bed room that was ready. My god is that what the Novotel Citygate calls customer service? Cross this hotel off the list!

Dear Traveller,

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent stay.

I do apologize that on your most recent stay we were unable to meet your request for immediate access to your room upon your arrival. Unfortunately when the hotel is running at high occupancies, not all request for early check in can be met. Please also note your assumption in regards to Crew is not correct and the arrangements for early access to rooms is based on holding the rooms the night before for a fee to ensure those rooms are available.

I would certainly recommend to avoid disappointment in the future for any early access in any hotel that you not only make a request but that you entertain the option of holding the room the night before

I am happy that the Assistant Manager was able to provide options and find a solution for you during your stay.

I hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

Kind regards,

Nicholas Cullum

We booked a night at the Novotel Citygate during our trip to Hong Kong because my wife flew in from Singapore while I was flying in from SFO. She stayed overnight and waited for me to arrive in the early morning.
There is a complimentary shuttle from the airport to the hotel, which is just a few minutes away.
The hotel is what you would expect of a Novotel - clean, functional & comfortable. It is still relatively new and well maintained - our room and the public areas were all in good condition.
The hotel is connected to Citygate Outlets, a mall with many outlet stores and a number of F&B outlets, including a food court. The mall is linked to Tung Chung MTR station, which offers convenient access to both Kowloon and Hong Kong island, as well as Disneyland which is just a few stops away.
Citygate Outlets used to be rather quiet when we visited a couple of years ago, but it was packed with Chinese tourists this time round.
If your main purpose for visiting Hong Kong is Disneyland plus outlet shopping, this hotel would be a good choice. But if you have meetings on Hong Kong island or prefer the hustle and bustle of Kowloon, then this may be a little out of the way.

I wouldn't hestitate to stay at the CityGate again for a HK stopover. We stayed one night on our way back to London from Auckland - the hotel is nice and handy to the airport, and they provide a free shuttle service each eay. We arrived at 7am local time and were dying to have a shower after a 12 hour flight - while we weren't able to immediately check into our room, we didn't have to wait long as we got our keys at 9.30am, which is pretty impressive.

The hotel is attached to an outlet mall, so even if you're only having the briefest of stays at the Citygate you'll be able to get in a bit of shopping. If you have a little more time, there is a metro station at the mall (so attached to the hotel) and you can get into town in reasonable time (about 30mins) - we headed in for dinner and a bit of window shopping. It's a nice, direct and hassle-free trip. If you have kids (or if you're young at heart), HK Disneyland is only a couple of stops away. The hotel is also handy to the gondolas which (I believe) take you up to the Big Buddha, though unfortunately there was a storm the day we were there so the gondolas weren't going.

The rooms are clean, well-apportioned and modern, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was excellent. Highly recommended!

Lots of options if you stay here - the hotel itself is very stylish and comfortable, good restaurants, and you also have direct access to the outlet mall. Several restuarants are there (and a McDonald's if you're so inclined). Breakfast is pricey, but there's a Pacific Coffee in the mall, five minutes from the hotel. I got a half bottle of really nice wine at Watson's Wine to go with dinner. My room is a nice size, comfortable, spotless and stylish. Free shuttle to the airport. The price is good considering its proximity to the airport. The Tung Chung MTR station is attached to the other side of the mall, very easy access. The ONLY caveat is that my taxi driver went around in circles trying to get to the hotel entrance - make sure the taxi driver REALLY knows how to get to the hotel.

Excellent hotel and service - free shuttle bus to and from airport. Easy access to outlet shopping, chair lift and train station. Have stayed here before and will stay again when next visiting Hong Kong.
