Hello
Being a Le Club Gold Member , I had to wait very long before I was checked in and the same upon check out, only two counters were operational even there were so many guests, most of all the front desk team was not so friendly nor helpful, I felt very bad . other wise the hotel is great and food is great, knead to have more choices for vegetarian lovers . and a very friendly and helpful team .

This is a decent airport hotel. It's about 10 minutes from the airport. You will find free shuttle at B16 hotel booth right outside of the arrival exit. A lady walked us to the shuttle after a 10 minute wait. The check-in process was also about 10 minutes for me that day around 3 PM. The reception line was not well defined. People could just walk up to the next opening reception and cut in front of you.

The hotel lobby is nice and clean. However, the seating is very limited and uncomfortable. I remember seeing only four three-person couches in the lobby where the hotel provided free Wi-Fi. All couches were occupied at the time of my check in. This is not a place to hang out because it has a feel of an awful bus station, very unfriendly and cold. I headed to the room on the 21st floor. Room was clean, modern and comes with an espresso machine. Bed was very comfortable. There is a shower but no bath tub. There is no free Wi-Fi in the room. The room costs over 200 USD and Wi-Fi costs almost 7 USD an hour. The general manager will argue that their Wi-Fi rates are competitive, but it just feels like I'm being nickel-and-dimed. For comparison, in-flight Wi-Fi is only 4 USD. Most hotels at this price point usually provide free Wi-Fi. I had hoped to take a relaxing swim, but was both surprised and disappointed to find the pool closed in 80 degree, clear sky weather. I have never seen this in any other hotel unless due to inclimate weather.

The outlet mall and and MTR station are right outside of the hotels lobby. Kowloon and Hong Kong stations are about 30 minutes from this MTR station for about HK$100. Both Kowloon and Hong Kong stations have big shopping malls attached to them. This is certainly a decent enough place if your main requirement is proximity to the airport.

NovotelCitygate, General Manager at Novotel Citygate Hong Kong, responded to this review, April 2, 2013
Dear strettnmaui

Thank you for taking the time to write a report on your most recent stay at Novotel Citygate.

It was most unfortunate to learn that the Swimming Pool was still closed upon your most recent stay with us. I am afraid that from December to the end of March our outdoor swimming pool is closed, but I can assure you it is now open. Complimentary internet is available in the Premier Rooms of Novotel Citygate, as well as free Wi-Fi in our Restaurants and Public areas; otherwise there is a fee for use in your room that as you so correctly pointed out is competitive within the Hong Kong hotel industry.

I do hope to have you return and stay with us in the near future.

Kind regards
Nicholas Cullum

This hotel may be a distance from the city but it offers great compensations in the form of a great adjoining shopping complex, proximity to the MTR station and bus terminal, only 2 train stops away from Disneyland, right on the dot for the fabulous cable car ride to Ngoh Ping San and of course nearness to the airport. For those who swim seriously, there is also a good public pool a few hundred meters away. As it was still winter/early spring when I last stayed at the Novotel Citigate, the hotel outdoor pool was closed. I swam daily at the heated public pool. There are plenty of food outlets in the shopping complex and small neighborhood mall nearby, which is linked by an overpass to the complex. The entire complex and area is very wheel-chair friendly which was important to me as I was traveling with an elderly couple aged 89 and 83 who was reliant on the chair.

My wife and I had a twin-room on the 21st floor looking towards the airport. The other side looks onto the very high rise housing around the hotel. On our floor there was a special lounge area with free afternoon tea and cocktails in the early evening.
The room was very comfortable although a bit over designed with a too complicated lighting system and some furniture and cupboards restricting movement.
Great location for the airport (free hotel shuttle) and city visit (train to city centre leaves from station next to hotel). A neighbouring outlet centre can be derectly accessed from the hotel lobby.
All staff members were very friendly and helpfull. We hat breakfast in the hotel restaurant which had a large choise and of very good quality.
Should we ever be in Hong Kong again we would certainly want to stay here.

I have stayed at The Novotel Citygate Hotel twice now and very pleased with my choice. The room although a little small has everything I needed , modern and avery comfortable bed . The breakfast is excellent and having a shopping complex joined on was convenient with a large choice of food outlets, clothing outlets . a supermarket and more. The free shuttle only takes about 5 minutes to the airport.
only a 5 minute walk to the Cable car that takes you over the mountain to the Big Buddha.
Ideal as a stop over but if you are touring around Hongkong then stay in the City and have the last night or two at Novotel City gate which we did. Perfect.

We chose this hotel as we were just stopping off for one night in Hong Kong and it was convenient for the airport.

I have stayed in one or two Novotels in France, and generally found them to be ‘OK’ – nothing special, but can be relied upon to provide a nice clean and comfortable room – in other words what you might expect in a typical chain hotel. This Novotel was an exception. It was a real cut above normal Novotel fare; I couldn’t believe the standard of the room we had; apart from it being spotlessly clean, the bed was superbly comfortable and the furnishings were of a high order. The bathroom area was very large, and again spotlessly clean with ‘his’ and ‘her’ sinks. OK, we opted for an upgrade, which included a package of breakfast, wifi and a 4pm check out, which suited us well as we had a late flight onto Australia. I felt the package cost was worth the extra for our requirement.

Although close to the airport, it was very quiet, obviously a good level of sound proofing had been built in.

Breakfasts were good, with a very wide breakfast choice, clearly catering for a wide diversity of clientele.

Novotel offer a free shuttle to and from the airport; this worked well, running every 15 minutes.

The other reason we selected this hotel was its proximity to the Ngong Ping Cable Car station (just a 5 minute walk) – a great trip particularly if your time is limited as ours was. For those who enjoy shopping, the City Gate shopping mall should satisfy; there was an exit from the hotel leading straight into this.

I give this Novotel an unhesitating recommendation. It was excellent in every respect.

Have stayed at this hotel a few times now and always stay in a suite on the Premier Floor.
The City Gate is just a 5 min free Novotel shuttle bus from the airport, If your staying on the Premier floor, then go directly to the lifts and book in at the Premier lounge on floor 21.

The suite is a very large room that has a lounge, coffe table and desk, comfortable kingsize bed and the bathroom is long and large with separate shower, separate toilet and bath with a T.V to sit back relax and watch.

Katy Lee who has greeted us on a few occassions in the lounge is the most helpful and professional young lady that personifies hospitality excellence. She even followed up with Accor regarding our membership card renewel and got it sorted for us.

The internet access is excellent and free as is the breakfast (and "Oh" what a breakfast) also cocktails, drinks and nibbles in the evening in the lounge when staying on the Premier Floors.

The shopping centre that City Gate is in has a multitude of shops, restuarants and a fantastic supermarket which I have visited on many occassions for the best fresh sushi.

Because there is a train station at the shopping centre, it's just a few stops to Disneyland or a quick trip into the the city. We much prefer to look out over the sea then be in the city.
