“Good mid-range hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

Probably as good as it might be for a mid range hotel within walking distance from Wan Chai. Our request to have 2 connected rooms was fulfilled without any problems. There's quite a good indoor/outdoor bar at the far corner of Cosmopolitan hotel just nearby, the outdoor part of it was quite a pleasant surprise, you'll see its window at the corner and a few tables just behind the corner on the Happy Valley side. Internet in the room is not free, unfortunately - but there's a free one in the lobby and on the 5th floor. Note that taxi drivers tend to mix Cosmo and Cosmopolitan, but it's not a big problem as they are about hundred meters from each other, and, apparently, have the same owner.

Room Tip: View from 19 floor was just fine, lower than 10 might be not so great.

Backpackers' delight! Smallish rooms and bathrooms with a real need for deep cleaning. Concierge hopeless. The hotel is an old government office that has been converted, and the partitions are thin! Breakfast and location OK. You can do better.

Room Tip: go as high as you can!

We stayed for a week at the Cosmo in Wan Chai to experience another part of Hong Kong from our previous trips.

The rooms are small but not much different to similar hotels in Hong Kong and certainly have enough room for two people. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is a decent size.

Fresh fruit and water was provided and the room was clean. No issues with housekeeping.

Although I understand the safety aspect of no outlets in the bathroom, the main room has only one usable outlet as well, so bring you powerboard or double adapter.

Included breakfast is fine and you can order omelettes etc to order if you like.

The location is a little out of the way for the MTR and taxis (you need to walk up the road and cross to get taxis in the morning rush. There is a bus stop outside the door and the Happy Valley tram stops about 200 metres down the road, so we used the tram a bit as we were not in a hurry to go anywhere.

I would be happy to stay at the Cosmo again, but would probably stay in another area next time in Hong Kong.

Firstly, I needed to extend my stay for a couple of days and this was one of only a handful that had a room available. Check in was easy enough and was given an upgrade to an executive room. Unfortunately, it was one of those times when you look at the room and think what on earth was the original room like!! Peeling wallpaper, dirty windows (inside and out), bashed and tired looking mdf furniture in drab grey, soft, saggy bed and a poor bathroom with a semi blocked sink and tired fittings. The a/c wasn't working in the room so I was offered another 'upgraded' room that was in an identical condition but with working a/c!! The hotel has the strangest (and darkest) bar and the hotel is away from Wan Chai and Causeway Bay. The most frustrating aspect came on check out when to catch a taxi you had to walk with your bags up the hill to the traffic lights and cross to the other side of the road!! Unfortunately it was pouring with rain but there was no alternative as taxis are never available from outside of the hotel!! There are better hotels in Hong Kong for this money!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. We are also sorry to hear that the room was not up to your expectation. Regarding your comments on the furniture, we will definitely review with management for further improvement in the future. Please be assured that our housekeeping has been reminded of the bathroom issue and will ensure proper cleaning procedures are adhered to at all times. Please accept our apology for the air-conditioner issue. Though regular maintenance for air-conditioner is carried out for each guestroom, rest assured that we will look into this matter immediately.

Moreover, I believe the night club you mentioned is our Nooch Bar, which is located on the ground floor. We hope you will have the chance to visit our trendy bar for some specially concocted cocktails during your next visit. With regards to hailing cabs in front of the hotel, our concierge is happy to assist you in hailing a cab. We also hope that you have had the chance to utilise our free shuttle bus service which takes our guests to 15 popular destinations during your visit. We hope to welcome you back again soon.

Hotel is clean, centrally located for downtown Hong Kong, great
rooms, clean, spacious! Staff was excellent-Victor the night manager was fantastic- we had some problems with airline and Victor was a big help in getting the issue resolved. Sister hotel is 1/2 block away and offers great shuttle service to major subway/bus connections. Also hotel is right across the street from Happy Valley horse race track and easy to enjoy
some horse racing. Excellent experience!

I was nervous because of other reviewers complaining that the rooms were too small but really there was nothing to worry about. Plenty of room for two friends in a twin room and our bathroom was even big enough for a full sized bath. Lots of hot water, fresh towels every day and fresh fruit available every day in the level 5 lounge area. Breakfast was included and were vast and various. Delicious fresh cut watermelon and pineapple every day, great scrambled eggs, noodles, dim sims and steamed buns. Plenty to keep us going all day. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Sister hotel Cosmopolitan, 100 metres down the road, gave us access to their free shuttle bus. Bus stop right outside the lobby. Brilliant. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Can't advise as I only stayed in one room which was very good.

Travelling with a friend, decided to look into a suite instead of two desperate rooms. The Cosmo really came up trumps! Ok, it's not a glamorous hotel, but the combination of affordability and a HUGE two-bedroom suite made it a real winner. Flexible check-in/-out times and really helpful staff means I will definitely stay again.
