“Great markets, shops and restaurants (also a great place to live)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014

Western District is full of small streets with a lot of character. The steps going up or down one street can have a totally different vibe. From antique row and some great small restaurants on Hollywood, to the markets where you can find fresh flowers, food, etc are great. It definitely has less of a commercialized feeling. In is also a great place to live because it is close to Central (for work), close to great restaurants (and more are popping up in the area every month), much more quiet and more of a neighborhood feel with parks.

“Don't go on Monday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

So I went on Monday. Apparently this is the worst time to go because its so dead. Again, apparently young local and westerners alike hang out in this area on Saturday and Sunday and then Monday is a day of rest. It is not as busy and therefore it is more difficult to get a real sense of the area.

“Interesting sights and markets...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

We wandered around the Western District and enjoyed all the sights and sounds of the markets and architecture. Worth a wander to take in some HK culture that is less impacted like annoying western tourists like me.

“Lovely little coffee shops dotted around the place :)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012

There are a lot of coffee shops spring up in and around this area and there are a lot of typical "Hong Kong eateries" here as well. Head over to Hillier Street and you will see, then walk up Ladder Street to discover the antique shops, Hollywood Road, Man Mo Temple and then head towards Tai Ping Shan Street and continue to explore up the hill for the little coffee shops. It's a much quieter area throughout the week than busy Mong Kok and Causeway Bay if you want to avoid the crowd for a day or two. After your self exploring tour, head over to Soho (walk along Bridges Street then into Staunton Street) for a well earned drink to relax!
