I wanted a hotel in Mid-Levels. There aren't too many. The Central Park Hotel is in the same chain as the Lang Kwai Fong and is a 'boutique' hotel ie small lobby. The entrance is smart and overall atmosphere 'cool'. Fine with me. Check-in effortless and business-like. Nice garden-view room with floor-to-ceiling windows. Bed nice and firm and plenty of space for me. Phoned down for some extra tea bags and paper and it came up fast enough. Fell asleep without shutting the door properly and concierge knocked to check all was OK. Didn't get around to using the breakfast room but maybe next time. The hotel is located in Sheung Wan which is an interesting area in its own right and ate a couple of times in the neighborhood of Western Market. MTR and trams a short walk away. There is also a nearby HSBC. A 10 minute walk along Hollywood Road will get you to Soho and the escalator. Next to the hotel is the Hollywood Road Garden which is the 'garden view'...a nice place to relax. Would I stay here again? Yes for sure: good value for a room ~ 1000 HKD.

I know, that Hong Kong has small hotel rooms, but our newly renovated garden view double room at Central Park Hotel was the tiniest I have ever stayed at. It was literary no space to put the luggage. If you need to use a lap top in the room, you will have to search for space on the deck really hard. Deck at the same time is a counter for the sink. Shower is good, but be careful adjusting the water, for me it was either too cold, or too hot. I would not say, that there is no privacy in the bathroom, the glass walls are matte and you can not see through it. The bed is low, but comfortable, which is a great find for any Asian hotels. Nice touch was a fruit basket in the room. Hotel, room and bathroom were spotlessly clean.
Hotel is not that close to the MTR station, I would say 10 min walk at least. There is another cheaper accommodation alternative right in front of MTR exit. There is no problem catching a cab there. I liked the location of Central Park Hotel because I used to walk everywhere in the Island, you may stroll on Hollywood road all the way trough to mid level escalators, Lan Kwan Fong, Central and beyond. Close to the hotel is great French restaurant on Hollywood road.

“Would NOT stay here again”

Apart from the convenient location of the hotel (about 10-15 minutes walk to the nightlife, bars and restaurants of SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong and its proximity to the MTR, bus stops and tram stops) and being in a part of Hong Kong which has a very 'old Hong Kong' feel about it with all the ginseng and Chinese herb shops, there is nothing good about this hotel.

If you like a clean and comfortable hotel room then forget it. (1) There was mould growing on one wall of the room I was allocated and the shower and toilet were worn, (2) the shower only provided freezing cold water or scaldingly hot water throughout my stay (despite being 'fixed' three times), (3) the only thing dividing the shower and toilet from the bed was a glass partition and (4) the cleaners were tardy - a 'new' bathrobe was left on my bed after a daily room clean one day but it had a huge caked-up stain on it.

If you're after a budget hotel and looking to do all the touristy things, try something in Causeway Bay which is a much busier area and is still very central and a short ride on the MTR to most things.

“Good, but shower is not for shy people”

Central Park Hotel

Feb 8, 2008

The hotel is better than I thought! It is very difficult to find a hotel room in Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year! After reading all the previous reviews, I had concerns. But this is the only hotel with room available and at a rate I could afford. so here I am.

Staff: Actually the hotel staff attitude was pretty good. Check in was easy, fast and with a smile. At 4 a.m. in the middle of the night, I wanted to log on internet, and could not find an internet connection. So I called the receptionlist. They sent someone within one minute, with a cable in hand, and actually connected my computer to the internet. To me, that is great service!

Room size: The room size is actually above average for Hong Kong. I would say it is even slightly bigger than some others I have stayed in Hong Kong. The table along the window wall was very space-saving and functional.

Bed: The bed is firm, but quite comfortable. My mom and I slept like a log. When I mentioned my concern when I checked in, the receptionist said they can bring a soft bed-pad is needed. If you prefer very soft bed, this is something to consider.

Shower: I definitely will need sometime to get used to this. As you can see from the pictures, the shower is at corner of the room, and there is no way to get undressed in privacy. As I am staying with my mom this time. I need to think of something. At my age, I am not ready to be seen naked by my mom. So I am taking a shower when my mom is asleep. The hotel should at least add a curtain of something. If you intend to share a room in this hotel, make sure you are comfortable being seen naked by your room-mates or be prepared to shower in the middle of the night.

Heat: Please note that there is no heat in the room, as in many HK hotels. In the winder, this can be an issue with some people who comes from warm countries. I put on the provided shower robe, and it worked just fine to keep me warm.

Other than the shower, this is an acceptable HK hotel to me. Location is great, room size if ok, and staff friendly.

Hotel is right at the end of all the antique shopping on Hollywood Rd. The room we had was very small but the staff was nice and most things were easy walking distance. Not close so when i say walking i mean 15 to 30 min walk. I would pick this place again if the price is still right.
