“Good package for families.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We stayed here with our 2 children (aged 10 and 13) in a room with 2 queens. Although pricey, this hotel seemed to offer the best deal for us as a family. The room was nice but tiny and lighting was very dim and after 4 nights we had well and truly had enough - guess this is Hong Kong. Location was great for us. Bus stop just up the road to Stanley - ask the front desk. Breakfast was great and made a good start to a day of sightseeing. Caught the hotel bus to Ocean Park and had a fabulous day. The reception staff were always very helpful. My only complaint is that wi-fi in the room is expensive, which means that the reception area was always crowded with people using the free wi-fi (including my children who can't seem to survive without a good daily dose of their i-pods) - to me the crowded lobby made the hotel feel like a backpackers. Given the package for families I would definitely stay here again.

I really liked this hotel, got nothing bad to say about it, i would definately stay there again.
Very good area, walk 10 min to be in the middle of all the busy shopping streets of Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, probably the best part of Honk Kong, in my opinion.
Lovely size room, nice clean bathroom, and helpful staff, that's all you need for a wonderful stay anywhere in the world.
Highly recommend this hotel :)

Staff were very supportive when I had early check-in. Room was OK but lights were not enough, little dark. Limited amenities. Location is not too good but they offer shuttle bus so it's a bit of compensation. I had a room on 15th floor, so view was nice.

Room Tip: I had a deluxe room with nice city view

Booked this room on Priceline so I did not specifically select it.

Summary:

Overall the hotel was just OK, neither exceptional nor terrible. I would have expected better especially given the maintenance issues I experienced (details below).

Location:

Located on Hong Kong Island. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the closest MTR station and about a 20-25 minute walk from the Star Ferry station. The hotel has a shuttle but it runs about every 20 to 40 minutes depending on the time of day, which can be infrequent enough to not make it worth waiting especially in the cold of winter.

Pros:

1) Rooms are small compared to most rooms in the US, but this is standard for many Asian countries. Rooms and bed were clean and

2) Hotel shuttle to MTR stations and Ocean Park.

3) A halal pizza restaurant is within walking distance (Casanova Pizza)

Cons:

1) View in some rooms can be less than desirable. My room view was of a highway and a graveyard.

2) My room had a few maintenance issues. First, the key lock did not work. The staff at the hotel first thought I was damaging the key or that I did not know how to use the lock so after multiple trips between the room and lobby, the staff finally agreed the lock was defective and fixed it. Second, the safe in the room also did not work. Third, there is a light in the closet is supposed to turn off when the closet doors are closed. The switch in the closet was very sensitive. I could not get the closet light to stay off so I had to sleep with the closet light on.

3) Wifi was not free and was not exceptionally fast for Hong Kong standards.

Dear Guest,

It’s great to know that our hotel has given you a clean and tidy accommodation with easy access to different entertainment spots. While our shuttle buses run on fixed schedule to allow guests better prepare their itineraries, additional coach will be arranged for selected routes at peak hours to cater high demand. Apart from the rooms that come with the view of historical churchyard, Cosmopolitan also comprises of Deluxe Causeway Bay City View room and Deluxe Course View room which overlook breath-taking city skyline and greenery of racecourse. We highly recommend you to give them a try next time.

We regret to learn about the unpleasant issues you have encountered in guestroom. Though similar incidents are quite rare to us due to the regular maintenance our hotel carries out, we will seriously look into the facilities’ conditions to prevent these from happening again. Training will also be reinforced to all staff to ensure efficient and hospitable service is extended under any circumstances. Besides the free wifi available in hotel lobby, guests could now enjoy free wifi in guestroom via reservations at our official website! The upgrade on current high speed internet service is also in the pipeline, which will surly give you a refreshing stay in the soon future!

Stayed there four days in December, well located just ten minutes walk to lots shops restaurants etc, staff very helpful, there is a free shuttle bus which is fine if you are on a budget but the cost of taxis is so cheap that it is better to take one, the cost to centre or Star Ferry is only about 30hkd, hotel very clean and if you get a high room excellant views, only downside is that when you leave the hotel and use the underpass there are many poor homeless people sleeping there, should not be in this day and age, we enjoyed our stay and if ever in HK again would not hesitate to stay at the Cosmopolitan.

Room Tip: Request high non smoking floor

I chose this hotel because it was one of the few on Hong Kong Island which offers one large room for a family of 4 (large rooms in Hong Kong are hard to come by), i.e., my wife, 2 children and I. Rates are reasonable, located next to the Happy Valley Race Course and is a mere 15 minutes from the Causeway Bay shopping area, i.e. close to Times Square, Haisan Place (new shopping centre). Easy access for us to get Muslim food, near the Islamic Centre Kitchen which is also about a 15 minute walk away on Oi Kwan Street, and a few other Halal food outlets around Wan Chai Street. Excellent value for money and good spread for breakfast.

Staff very helpful, speak English, excellent service, very clean and very efficient. Have stayed in Charterhouse Hotel nearby before, but for the same price, better value and bigger room.

Room Tip: Our room was facing the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. If you don't mind the huge cemetery next door...

I stayed in this hotel more than 3 years ago and the renovation has done wonders to the rooms and the all day dining restaurant. We took the family package and the kids were greeted with a box of snacks and a cosmopolitan teddy bear which was a nice touch.

The rooms aren't extremely large, a bit of a squeeze for 2 adults and 2 children but it was sufficient. The location for me wasn't great was its at least a 5 minute trek out to nearby shops and/or the MTR. Having said that it was quieter and away from the hustle and bustle of Central and Wan Chai which suited us.

The breakfast buffet spread was okay. We had a room that faced the jockey club which gave us a view of the race. The service at the front desk and the conceirge is pretty good.
