“Quirky hotel but not bad value for Hong Kong”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2011

I had booked this hotel as being the best deal I could find on the internet for a 4 star hotel that also ranked highly on Trip Advisor and was in the area we wanted. Hotel prices are very expensive in Hong Kong, so although the room seemed expensive for what it was, by Hong Kong standards it wasn't bad. We found it amusing when we checked in as the reception staff tried hard to get us to pay quite a lot more for an upgrade and then, when we said no after seeing the better room, giving us a key to the better room we had just been shown. The basic rooms are very small so we were quite happy to get a slightly larger room at no extra cost. The room was comfortable with a quirky style. Breakfast was perfectly adequate but not exceptional.
We had expected free WiFi but the internet was only available in the room if you had a plug in laptop with you. There was a significant charge to use the hotel computers.

There are only 2 choices of hotel, of good quality at a close proximity to my office in Hong Kong. The Mira & The Luxe Manor.

Have been staying in this hotel for most of my trips here for the past 4 years.

One thing that is always lacking in this hotel is the efficiency of the check-in. It always take more than 10-15 minutes to get everything done.

Some things that would need to be looked at:
1. Would prefer the normal shower head instead of the current lean shower head.
2. Using a shower curtain is really out of date.
3. They have remove the hotel mobile phone that can be do free local calls (Would love to have this feature back as now, I can only have the "fixed" phone on the desk to do the free local calls).
4. To have a bigger closet to hang my clothes. The drawer and the safe box takes half of the space.
5. To have a more stable WiFi connection (including the fixed line too).
6. A better spread of breakfast (I always skip it and go for breakfast outside). But then, it's free, so I shouldn't complain.

Nonetheless, I love the:
1. Bed & Pillow - It's the hard bed that I really love.
2. Snacks - Every evening, I would have some cookies / chocolate send to my room. It's a nice touch and it taste good.
3. The bar and restaurant at night is one experience to savor.
4. Location!

The experience for Mira & Luxe is totally different and shouldn't be compared.
One is a posh high rise hotel while another is a low rise

Although I have rated it average, it is still my choice due to it's unique experience of a boutique hotel.
And if the cons can be overlooked, it WILL be a "very good" hotel.

Tips:
1. Place the loud ticking "antique" clock in the drawer at night to have a more pleasant sleep.
2. Never choose the rooms that overlook the Knutsford Step. It's noisy.

Stayed here with my husband on a business trip in May 2010. Beautiful accomodations with unique rooms, very modern hotel. Great service by hotel staff. Good location for Star Ferry, catching MTR or taxis. We never ate in the hotel so I can't provide any feedback there.

The Luxe Manor was an absolute find. Stunning decor, very friendly and helfpul staff and a brilliant location. Close to shopping, eating, trains and the Star Ferry. The rooms were a good size and decorated in a totally unique way - we had mirrors bending on the corners of the walls, a fake fireplace/mantle and some very quirky puppy dog lamps. It was fun!
The room rate was reasonable (especially considering what you would get for the same value in Australia!) and breakfast was inlcuded in our accomdation - banquet style in the lovely restaurant each morning.
We had a brilliant stay at the Luxe and will definitely be back next time we're in Hong Kong.

this is one romantic hotel. the entrance to luxe manor is quite obscure but when you get to their mini lobby one thing will strike you: its eclectic chic at its finest.
i love the lobby chairs with the chinese cartoon characters on it and the lights gave off a warm loving glow.

the room isnt that big and decor carries on the same theme as their lobby. cozy and sweet.
breakfast buffet didnt have a wide range of choices but by then i suspect that this is really just a boutique hotel catering mostly to honeymooners or travelers who want their hotel to look "art deco-ish"

service is excellent. having tried about 20 hotels in hongkong. i can truly say that most hotels have really good customer service. people are always polite, helpful and eager to please you

We stayed at The Luxe Manor Hotel, Hong Kong in May for 1 day. The good thing about the hotel was that it was in the heart of the city, everything important in HK was in the walking distance. The bad thing was that for USD 200 per night, hotel was very average with a small gym and limited food options. It looked on more like 3 - 3.5 star hotel.

We stayed there from June 23rd to the 26th. Reserved two rooms through expedia. A week before departure from Canada I requested directly to the hotel for adjoining rooms as I had two children. Upon arrival we were given adjoining rooms one with a queen and the other with two twin beds. The hotel and rooms are decorated in a mystical theme. We were up on the 4th floor over looking restaurants in the back alley. We never heard a sound all night and day. The breakfast was wide spread dim sum, bread, butter, cheese, eggs in any form you would like, potatoes, baked beans, bacon, sausages, scones, danish, fresh fruit, lattes, tea and juice including salads and deli meat. The service was great. Upon checking out we had a phone call down to reception letting us know that our son had left his iphone in the safety deposit box. That is pure honesty and good service. Lots of hot water for showers, clean towels everyday. The staff were very friendly. The hotel is located in the TST area - its close to almost everything. You could spend entire day just around your hotel without even taking the MTR and you would not finish seeing everything. The MTR is only a 5 minute walk, including the star ferry and the clock tower (that is where you go to watch the symphony of lights). There was also free internet including the 24 hr gym that we used daily.
