“Big Buddha”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Cableway amazing and Buddha a treat, but got to be lucky with weather. Unfortunately we went on a day when the weather changed and had to buy a jacket as it got cold

“Quite and relaxing place where a lot of things to do and visit.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013 via mobile

This island southwest of Hong Kong is one of the better places for tourist attraction, to reach this island is simple, fast and comfortable through the Metro line.
This unlike the chaotic Hong Kong is a more relaxed place where you can stay in contact with nature. Here in this island there is the famous Disneyland, the famous Big Buddha and his temple and the famous fishing village of Tai O.
A truly unique place and definitely worth a visit.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Very easy to get to on the MTR. The queues were quite long and eventually after an hour made it onto the cable car, The views are great and i would recommend this option rather than the bus, unless you have a fear of heights. Once at the summit you have a promenade with some shops and F&B options and then the Buddha. there are a lot of steps to reach the Buddha, and once up there isn't much to see so its not really necessary. Its worth a visit. The queue for the cable was much shorter on the way down.

“A real contrast to Hong Kong”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

It is so much easier to get to Lantau these days, with the option of taking a ferry, a bus or the MTR, or any combination of them. We soon discovered that visiting Po Lin Monastery on a weekend was possibly not a great idea - we certainly were not alone. It was well worth the visit though and the site is so big that there was room for all. We opted to take a bus to the monastery as the queues for the cable car were horrendous with literally thousands of people waiting. There are plenty of food outlets and shops within the monastery grounds and amazing views of the outlying islands to be had from the Big Buddha. The rest of Lantau is quiet and rural, a complete contrast to Hong Kong. There are many good photo opportunities. Whilst we were there we also visited the old fishing village of Tai O which is still relatively unspoilt. A reasonably priced boat trip took us to see the stilt houses and out onto the bay in search of dolphin. Lantau is definitely worth a visit.

“Peace and tranquility in Hong Kong”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

Away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, Lantau Island offers visitors breathtaking scenery when riding a cable car atop the high mountains heading towards the famous Tian Tian Buddha Temple - it's amazing to discover such tranquillity in Hong Kong!
