“Very Peaceful Place in Busy City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

Good place to relax and unwind, but quite small. As it is located next to Nan Lian gardens, it is worth going to just to escape the busy city streets. You can probably walk around the gardens and nunnery in about an hour.
Great places foe photos but agree with some other reviews - it isn't essential you visit here.
If you are in Hong Kong for a few days, dont worry, but if you have a spare afternoon on a longer break, i cannot recommend this enough. On the other side, even if you are in Hong Kong for a few days, if you prefer peace and quiet, then this is the place for you!!

“A Place of Solitude”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

The gardens at Chi Lin Nunnery are just beautiful ... a place of solitude amongst the noise and bustle of this big city. So easy to find just take the MTR Diamond Hill and follow the signs.. a short walk. Go through the gardens first and then the temple.

“A place to be respectful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

This is a lovely Buddhist place of worship and if you spend the time reading the material around the Nunnery then it is hard not to have a real respect for the teachings and practices of this religion.
The architecture is stunning and the setting is very beautiful.
Combined with the Nan Lian garden these free attractions are well worth the trip.

“Tranquil oasis, but not really a "must do" on a short trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

A feeling of peace and tranquility descends on you as you walk into this Buddhist nunnery. The architecture of the building, the lotus ponds and the lovely gardens, accompanied by the smells of wood, incense and the soft chanting in the background - so calming for the eyes and the soul!

That said, I am not sure if this deserves to be on the 3 days in HK list... Especially if you have traveled around Asia and visited Buddhist temples, palaces, Japanese/Korean gardens, etc. I would rather recommend visiting the Big Buddha on Lantau island (which is already on the list) or Sai Kung country park (not on the list), where you can hike if you want to or just take a taxi ride and enjoy picturesque views, rounding up your visit with a nice seafood meal.

Chi Lin nunnery is worth visiting if you are on a longish trip to HK and getting tired of eating out, drinking and shopping. And if you do make it there, check out the Nan Lian gardens too.
