“Great stuff - keep it up”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Being a fan of Chilli Club in Wan Chai - didn't think was going to find better, but this place puts up a good challenge. Not the easiest place to find - down some steps on Peel street - definitely worth seeking out. Good & friendly service from the moment we walked in & given good seating even with our baby along. Good menu including Tapas dishes & mains etc. We liked the look of all & over ordered - credit to the waiter who told us so & even though we knocked off one of the mains - still could not have managed more. The tapas portions were really decent sizes for us to share & all of them tasted excellent. The pork neck being outstanding. Mains also lovely. Washed down with beers & a bottle of pinot grigio at a reasonable price. This small but friendly restaurant has a good ambiance & serves excellent food - a must try.

“Good, but could be even better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013 via mobile

Have been twice now. The first time to try it before I booked it for my birthday dinner a few days later. I must admit that having reserved a table in person, and arrived less than 10 mins late, I was pretty annoyed to discover that they'd given my table away. Think that was not very nice.
However, when we eventually did get seated, the food is pretty good, and the orange coloured walls tone down well in the evening. So go there and enjoy, but don't be late at all for your table !!

“Felt like a let down after all the rave reviews. Teething troubles perhaps”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

The good things first - the service. The staff was friendly, seemed to care about the patrons and were trying their best.

It's a small restaurant, like most places in SoHo, with an okay ambience. It was packed when we went... Which is a good sign for a new place still in their soft opening phase. Unfortunately the kitchen seemed totally 'overwhelmed' and our waiter warned us that our tapas would take about 30 mins to serve! Hmmm... We overheard that the chef had a day off (on a Saturday night!). Maybe that was the reason.

Now for the food - the menu at Tangerine is a mix of Thai and Malaysian (items like roti prata, satays, etc.) with a decent range of tapas and mains to chose from. We ordered two tapas (chilli beef and sizzling prawns) and the prawns were very good. The sauce in the beef dish was really tasty, though the meat pieces themselves felt a bit off. The green curry was quite disappointing. I just feel that this is a dish that any self-respecting Thai restaurant should get right. The biggest disappointment was the stomach cramps when we got home... Perhaps it was the beef (certainly not the spices cos we have high levels of spice tolerance and the dishes were only mildly hot to our palates).

After reading all the reviews, was really expecting something better. Hope these are just teething troubles and the restaurant gets its act together in time for their grand opening. We are unlikely to visit again unless we hear good reviews from friends in the future.

“A superb restaurant where food, drink list and service all comes together.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

We were recommended the restaurant by someone who had enjoyed their visit. As tourists, a personal recommendation carries a lot of weight. We were not disappointed. The very friendly and helpful service guided the 'inexperienced' amongst us through the dishes. We were able to chose the degree of 'heat'. Great for the tentative eaters! We had a mixture of tapas and something from the main menu. Superbly delicious and plentiful. A lot of thought has been given to the recommended accompanying drinks. A very nice idea. Staff were on hand but not 'in your face'. Toilets were excellent. Will we be going back when there are restaurants galore in Hong Kong? We certainly will.

“Excellent Thai fod in HK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Like liked a lot both the tapas and regular dishes we tried and accompanied by great service it makes this a good choice. Also they had a good wine list even the cheapest wines were very ok. Can recommend Tangrine to anyone who enjoys thai food.
