“Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

This museum has a lot of interesting information on the history of Hong kong, specially the different people who inhabited the region, the opium wars and japanese domination. Personally, I would recommend having a quick look at the first location (pre-history) and paying more attention to the others.

“excellent way to learn about HK's history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

I didn't have a clue about Hong Kong's history when we arrived in this fantastic city except from what I had read in my guide. So it was quite naturally that we decided to visit Hong Kong Museum of History. We did a one hour long guided tout with a friendly and witty guide who spoke english very well and who did such a great job that we decided to come back the following day so we could spend more time on particular chapters. The entry fee is cheap (10HK $), so we did not hesitate. There are many movies shown im multiple languages or with subtitle.
The way the city's fascinating development is told is pedagogical and amusing. If you look this at is with critical (european) eyes, some propagandistic / chauvinistic insistances could be unveiled... But I guess this is a natural tendency in museums of history around the world. The props and the decor are really looking authentic!

“Great for learning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

We went here during our trip in HK last Nov. 2012. Admission fee is HK$ 10 for adults and HK$ 5 for kids. Our first plan was to visit the Science Museum because it is close to Hotel Benito where we stayed. Unfortunately it was closed during our visit so we opted for the Museum of History. At first we thought it as just so-so but when we explored the inside, we were fascinated by the vast collection of artifacts and displays. We learned the origin of HK and their culture plus their way of life during the old times. We didn't get to explore the whole place for we were not expecting it to be huge and we're already hungry come lunch time. Truly it was a wonderful way to learn more about Hong Kong.

“Worth 2 hours of a trip to HK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Skip the first 4 rooms, which are the geology of the area, and get to the human history part of the museum. Wonderful pictures and recreations of street scenes from different historical periods. It is amazing to see how fast the city has changed. Entirely different place when comparing 1960 to 2013..
