“Best thing to do in HK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

The best hike in HK (short and not too difficult but amazing views- yet gives a bit of exercise) never has any crowds. You can take bus to the start and end points or try to get a cab when you can. I really advise ANYONE in HK (visitors or residents) to try this hike if you have never hiked in HK. It will show how HK is not all concrete and skyscrapers.

“Pleasant hike”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Take the #40 local bus from Causeway Bay (just off Hennessy Road) for 10HK$ to the Shek O stop. The trail is very well indicated and well maintained, so almost impossible to get lost. The first mile or so is steeply uphill on steps, then the trail opens out and meanders up and down until you get to the ridge. If it is sunny the views stretch far east and west, which makes the effort worthwhile. Most days there is mist or low cloud which somewhat spils the view, but if you are interested in circling birds of prey, paragliders or just a good walk away from the hustle and bustle of the city the walk is very enjoyable. It is not a tough walk, but decent shoes do help, especially if you do the whole walk all the way round to Big Wave Bay. The descent to BWB is slippy if it has rained, so sandals are out. Take the local bus back to Shau Kei Wan MTR for 10HK$.

“Great Walk Despite the Mist”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

A rewarding and not too difficult walk on Hong Kong Island over some flat and averagely steep climbs. Well-maintained pathway over the complete length. Easily walkable in 2 or 3 hours. I imagine it would afford splendid views but alas the mist made sure that we did not see too far ahead of us. Tea in the Shining Stone in Shek O Village at the end of the walk soothed all wear and tear.

“6 hour hike in 3 hours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

The hike is actually quite easy. The first 3K is mostly up hill, but then you follow the Dragon's back meandering up and down and eventually down to the beach.
It took only 3 hours because I was not that interested in the flora and what not and mostly did it for excercise. Access to the start is very easy and there is public transportation from the park to an MTR station.

“A "not so strenuous" hike to enjoy gorgeous views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

If you aren't familiar with the area, the Dragon's back trailhead may be hard to find, but once you find it, it's quite easy.

Parts are shaded (the lower part) and on the dragon's back itself it is quite sunny, so beware if it's a sweltering day. Wonderful views of the South Eastern part of HK island with a great village of Shek O to visit for a post hike lunch or beer!
