“The smart choice for business travellers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

The hotel is very convenient for business travelers as it is just opposite to the Hong Kong convention and exhibition center where most of the important fairs take place through out the year. Besides it is in a calm area far from the crowded places making it hassle free. Rooms are relatively small but you can choose a premier plus harbour room for bigger ones and enjoy stunning views of Victoria Harbour.

Room Tip: Choose the premier plus harbour rooms for better views and bigger rooms

Dear Sir,

Thank you for writing us a piece of compliment on TripAdvisor.com. We are happy to know that you had a comfortable stay with us and appreciated our hotel’s location, placid environment and the stunning harbour view.

Regarding the size of our guestroom, it is true that if compared with other hotels, our guestrooms are not big in general. Apart from the Premier Plus Harbour View Room, we have 2 other room categories, namely, Executive Room and Executive Deluxe Room, which are larger than the regular ones and facing the Victoria Harbour too. You may consider staying in one of these rooms during your next to Hong Kong to have an even better accommodation experience.

Thank you again for your comment and we will strive for higher service standard and we look forward to the pleasure of serving you again in the near future.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

Like many others that have reviewed this hotel before me, I stayed here on business while attending a tradeshow at the HK Convention Center.

The location is perfect, and the price is pretty reasonable with respect to the rest of HK. Tons of restaurants and shops are just a leisurely stroll away, and getting here is a breeze (see my note at the end). Also, an improvement from prior years is that there is free Internet in the lobby.

That's about where the positives end. The rooms are minuscule and the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. This was my biggest issue. There were stains on the walls, and the bathroom had mold visibly growing. The walls were pretty thin, but it wasn't really a problem for me.

The breakfast buffet was expensive and not anything special.

We would stay here again (we actually already have stayed here twice), but hope that they work on the cleanliness.

Transportation note! When you fly into HK, take the airport train to the Hong Kong station, then take the FREE airport shuttle bus (route H2) to the Hong Kong Convention Center. Then you can just walk across the street to the hotel. Do the reverse to go back to the airport and you just saved some cash and the headache of a cab ride!

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Thank you very much for staying with us again and writing a piece of valuable comment on TripAdvisor.com. We are glad to know that you are satisfied with the hotel’s location, price and the transportation network. It is also nice to learn that you appreciated our new free wireless internet service at the lobby. Please note the hotel is making every possible effort to improve the service quality and facilities to provide better accommodation experience for our guests.

Regarding the cleanliness of guestroom and bathroom, we are regretful that our performance fell below your expectation. We do take your words seriously and have passed your message to our Housekeeping Team. Staff members have been briefed to pay extra attention on the hygiene and cleanliness when making up the rooms. Please be assured that improvement would be made definitely.

Your comment on our room size is well noted. It is true that if compared with other hotels, our guestrooms are not big in general. In fact, we have 2 other room categories which are larger than the regular ones and face the Victoria Harbour, namely, Executive Room and Executive Deluxe Room. You may consider staying in one of these rooms during your next visit.

You opinion on the price and food variety of our breakfast buffet is well taken too. We have raised this issue to our Food and Beverage Department, and they will review and follow up accordingly.

We are most grateful for your feedback, which is valuable and important to us, so that we can find rooms for improvement. We look forward to the pleasure of serving you again in the future.

The hotel is a convenient 3-minute walk to or from the Convention Centre. Especially if you are attending a fair which already involves a lot of walking throughout the day, this is a very good choice as you don't want to have to walk again at the end of the day to join the throngs of people rushing to the train station, nor to join the long taxi queues to go back to hotels which are farther.

The room and bath are both tiny and a bit cramped. Although on the good side, the toiletries (shampoo, soap, shower caps, toothbrush+paste) are replenished daily and quickly. The choice of a telephone or rain shower in the bath is also a nice add-on. There is free few minutes use of a pc with internet at the lobby (though I never used it). Staff are friendly and helpful and can give you tips like how much an airport express (HK$100@) versus a taxi (+/- HK$350/cab) would cost to get back to the airport.

If you don't want to eat at the hotel, there is a good eating place right beside it (Cafe de Coral) which serves breakfast starting at just +/-HK$23 from 8am. Walking to the MTR is a bit of a hassle though as it is a 12 to 15 minute walk away and may be a bit hard to find if you don't frequent the area. For me, if you are planning a leisure trip, this is not the place to stay. But overall, I would stay here again for our next company business trip, and recommend this hotel, if there is a need to attend at the HK Convention Centre.

Room Tip: Pay extra or ask for a room with a sea view if you can't stand views of gray, brick walls.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Thank you for taking time to write us a piece of feedback on TripAdvisor.com. Thank you for recommending our hotel to other travellers attending exhibition or fair in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre too. We are glad to know that you are satisfied with the location of our hotel, bathroom amenities and friendly and efficient service delivered by our Concierge staff and Housekeep team members. We will share your message with the above-mentioned departments duly.

The Harbourview is located right at the centre of the business area on Hong Kong Island. With our prime location, guests will have easy access to attractions by taking public transports like MTR, Star Ferry or bus which are not far from the hotel, all these stations or terminals are within 15 minute’s walking distance. Thus, it is also suitable for leisure travellers to stay with us.

Apart from the dining place of the next building, there are lots of restaurants across the main road which only takes you 10 minutes to reach. Actually our hotel has 2 inexpensive dining places, Harbour Restaurant and Mezz Floor namely, the former serves lavish buffets throughout the day and the latter serve drinks and light snacks. If you are interested to know more, please visit our official website.

You comment on the guestroom and bath room size is well taken too. We admitted that our average room size is not big comparing with other hotels. However, we do have 2 other room categories which are significantly larger in size, namely, Executive Room and Executive Deluxe Room. You may consider staying in one of these rooms during your next visit. For details, you are welcomed to visit our official website or contact our Reservation Department via email: reservation@theharbourview.com.hk.

Thank you again for your comment and we look forward to welcoming you back during your next visit in Hong Kong.

Pros:
1. If you have business at the HK Convention Center, there are probably only 2 hotels closer than this hotel, and both are way more expensive. The entrance to the convention center was like a 3 minute walk.
2. I got a room with a view of the harbour and it was very nice. Would recommend.
3. The room was clean, and the size of the room was average for a HK hotel (but it would be considered quite small by US standards). Bathroom was clean, and typical size for a HK hotel (but would be considered small by US standards).
4. It was quiet. You're not located hear the girly bars in wan chai.

Cons:
1. Their internet connection was a nightmare. To me, this was the worst part of about the hotel. Internet speed was lousy. The system that they used for connecting to the internet was really buggy. I had refresh my page 30% of the time to get it to load correctly. I was in HK for business, and doing anything with remote access or upload/downloading files (not even large ones) was horrible. It costs about $20/day and I would rather use the wifi I got off my phone. For this reason alone, I wouldn't stay at this hotel again.
2. Hotel room service wasn't 24 hours, and very limited.
3. Lobby is small, and it gets crowded when people are checking in and out.
4. Almost all the cab drivers mistook this hotel for the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel (which is close to this hotel).
5. The wan chai subway station was relatively far. I thought it would have been closer.
6. There's no close convenience stores.
7. Check took a long time.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Thank you for sharing your comment on TripAdvsior.com. It is good to know that you were satisfied with the convenient location, room cleanliness and the stunning harbour view in the room, as well as the placid nearby areas of our hotel.

Please be informed that The Harbourview and Renaissance Harbour View Hotel are 2 different and independent hotels. Since the names and locations are similar, some of the taxi drivers may mix up the 2 hotels. We have been trying our best to promote our hotel through online and offline channels to increase our visibility to the public. Also, in-house guests are welcomed to collect hotel name cards at the reception desk for showing to taxi drivers to make sure drivers drop them off at the right place.

Regarding the wireless internet connection issue, we apologize for the unstable internet connection that you have encountered in our hotel. The installation of new broadband cables on guest floors is completed recently; the speed and stability of network connectivity are both enhanced. In addition, we currently offer free internet access for guests who make reservation through our hotel’s official website. For details, please visit our official website or you may contact our Reservation Department via email reservation@theharbourvire.com.hk.

Since our hotel is located in the middle of MTR Wanchai and Admiralty station, therefore it might take you 10 to 15 minutes to walk to either station. Besides MTR, you might consider other modes of transportation; bus stops with various routes to the Island side and Star Ferry terminal to Tsim Sha Tsui are both within 10 minutes’ walking distance from the hotel. For queries related to transportation, our Concierge team members are more than welcome to assist you.

It is also true that convenience stores are not easily accessible in nearby areas. However there are actually 2 convenience stores in Immigration Tower which is less than 100 metres away from the hotel, unluckily they are both opened until 6pm daily, and this might not be convenient for you.

Your comments on the efficiency of check-in and check-out are well taken and have been raised to the Front Office department. Please understand that the number of counters available at the reception desk is limited by the space of hotel lobby, and our receptionists have been working very hard to deliver efficient service. Kindly also note that the size of the hotel lobby cannot be altered, we feel sorry about the over-crowding situation happens occasionally. To deal with this problem, we will try to encourage guests not to gather at the lobby if they are not checking-in nor checking out.

Last but not least, your words on the service hour and food variety of room service are acknowledged. We will pass your comment to our top management for considering the possibility of implementing 24 hours room service. Regarding the menu items, please note that room service menu will be reviewed on regular basis, and the Food and Beverage department has been informed of your comment duly.

Thank you again for your valuable comments, from which we can identify our weaknesses and spot out rooms for improvement. We sincerely wish that you could give us one more chance when you are visiting Hong Kong again.

Checking in and out were speedy. The staff are professional and polite.

Room's pretty good with a decent view of the sea. House keeping's on time daily.

Sleep quality is good with the quality bed. Regulation of the room temperature right on.

Literally practical.

I stayed at the Harbourview Hotel on a business trip and have to say it was mediocre at best.

Pros - Good location.
Clean

Cons - Building work going on in hotel
Rooms very small
I had a view of a brick wall from window.
No public bar
Some staff not very helpful.

The hotel was OK for me as a business traveller but if I had of been on a trip with my family I would have checked out and gone somewhere else.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking your time writing us a comment on TripAdvsior.com.

The Harbourview is making every possible step to provide a better accommodation experience and environment for our guests, as a result, improvement work at the hotel’s side entrance is being conducted at the moment. We would like to take this chance to apologize for any inconvenience caused to you because of the improvement work during your stay.

It is true that we do not have a public bar in our hotel. However, we do have two dining places serving food and drinks throughout the day, namely Harbour Restaurant and Mezz Floor. For the operating hours and food varieties, please visit our hotel’s official website. You might consider trying one of them during your next visit. Besides, there are numerous bars within 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel across the main road if you would like to have more choices.

Your comment on our service quality is well taken and we have passed your comment to the top management. Please be assured that continuous training on service quality will be offered to all frontline staff members. Offering attentive and friendly service is always the main concern of the hotel and we would spend more effort to ensure our staff delivers high quality service.

Your words on the view of our guestroom are acknowledged. Constrained by the location, some of our guestrooms face the wall of the next building unavoidably. However, it is also true that over half of our guestrooms do face the harbour. For details, you are welcomed to visit our hotel’s website or contact our Reservation Department via email: reservation@theharbourview.com.hk.

Our average room size is not big if compared with other hotels. However, we do have 2 other room categories, namely, Executive Room and Executive Deluxe Room, which are significantly larger in size and face the Victoria Harbour.

Last but not least, thank you for your positive comments on our hotel’s cleanliness and convenient location. Please be assured that improvements would be made definitely and we sincerely wish that you could give us one more chance when you are visiting Hong Kong again.

Room was tiny and the smallest bathroom I have ever seen. View was a concrete wall., deity claim that most rooms have a Harbour view. Although small the rooms were clean and nicely furnished and the bed was comfortable. The TV was tiny - about twice the size of an iPad and channel choice was limited. The porters were great but other staff had no idea of service. one girl on check in was sour and unhelpful. Breakfast buffet was OK. Reasonable choice but it was not even possible to buy a good coffee ( e.g. Latte). I could see the machine but when I asked I just got " no" with no explanation. I had a great Laksa in the cafe but when I tried to order it the next night for room service I again got a " no" - bluntly with no reason or explanation. Worst service I can remember. Rating would be higher if service was better and there are lots of improvements that could be made without extra cost to the hotel. Rating would be better is service was improved.

Room Tip: Specify if you want a double bed or you might get singles. Specify non smoking. Specify a view.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Thank you for sharing your comment on TripAdvsior.com.

We are regretful that the hotel fell below your expectation and would like to take this chance to apologize for the service you have encountered in our hotel. Offering attentive and friendly service to guests is always the main concern of the hotel. We do take your words seriously and have passed your comment to the concerned departments duly. Staff members of the Front Office Department and Food and Beverage Department have been briefed to pay more attention to their service quality. Please be also assured that continuous trainings on English in the workplace and service quality will be offered to our Frontline staff and we will strive for the improvement definitely.

Regarding the concrete wall of the next building, it is true that almost half of our guestrooms face this wall. Constrained by the hotel’s location, we can do nothing to alter this fact. However, it is also an undeniable fact that slightly more than half of our guestrooms possess the stunning view of Victoria Harbour. Please understand that it is very rare for a hotel in Hong Kong to have all guestrooms facing the harbour. For more information about our guestrooms, you are welcomed to contact our Reservation Department via- email reservation@theharbourview.com.hk or visit our hotel’s official website.

Our guestrooms and bathrooms are not big in size if compared with other hotels in Hong Kong, however, we have been trying our best to compensate these drawbacks with our reasonable prices and prime location. Please note that we have 2 other room categories which are significantly larger than the regular ones and possess the Victoria Harbourview, namely, Executive Room and Executive Deluxe Room. Their bathrooms are larger than the regular one too.

Kindly also be informed that we are replacing the small in-room televisions with larger screen TVs in our all our guestrooms in different phases and this process will be completed soon. Your comment on limited TV channels is also acknowledged. We will pass this opinion to the top management for consideration of introducing more TV channels.

Your positive comments on the service delivered by the Concierge team, breakfast quality, guestroom cleanliness and comfort of the sleeping bed are well taken too. Please be assured again that your suggestions and comments would be taken seriously and we will look into the matters in depth to strive for higher service standard. We sincerely wish that you could give us a chance during your next visit to Hong Kong.
