“some problem and disappointed , this time.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

I have stayed at panda hotel several times. It's far from the city, but we enjoy the big and clean room every time.
Last Sunday, we arrived in the busy morning, the line up for check in is so long. Then a guy of front desk gave me a confirmation # and promised room available around 11:00am, that sounds better than usual 2:00pm. After spending 1.5 hour in nearby shopping mall which I didn't prefer , we went back for the room. However, we were told no room until 2:00pm per hotel policy. Why did the guy over promise 11:00am ? Otherwise, I would go to see the big Buddha of lantau island.
after lunch and sightseeing, we got the room, but both key card couldn't open the door.
A friendly staff used her key card to open the door, and suggested to check the cards at front desk. Again we have to lineup at front desk, we found the key card is totally wrong. They changed it w/o problem, but this kind of small issue totally wasted my time and ruined my mood. fortunately, the room is cozy.

Besides, the handle of luggage is probably damaged by porter. I didn't notice that until in airport.
I will consider if I should pick other hotel next time.

First of all, the rooms are nice and big. The location is far from the center, but has all the facilities near you. Shops, restaurants, fast food and subway 10 minutes walking on a pedestrian bridge.
The red line will take you through Nathan road to the central in Hong Kong Island.
The hotel located in a very strange building.
At the ground floor and the basement are 3 floors of shoping center opened partly after renowation. The lobby of the hotel is on the third floor and the rooms above floor no. 8. The lobby is busy like a railway station, groups are coming and going.
The restaurant and cafe shop are next to the reception. The breakfast is realy good.
An exit to the parking floors is next to the reception and from there you can take the shuttle bus
for 10 HK$ to Peking road at Koowlon.

We booked through asiarooms.com and got a discount off the rate quoted on the hotel website. Check in was quick (at midnight) and we were sleeping soundly not long after entering our room. While it doesn't look as though the room had been renovated of late everything was clean, everything worked and the shower had good pressure and stayed hot. Breakfast was great with a wide range of food to choose from.

The hotel is located within a 5 minute walk to the Tai Wo Hau MTR station which will take you all the way to Hong Kong island. It does take 25-30min to get into the city, but there are numerous interesting stops before then, with the transfer to the airport and Disney lines a few stops away.

The area the hotel is located in isn't great for those of us who don't speak Cantonese (especially when eating out - we had McDonald's more times than we would have liked) but you can usually find someone to help you out.

If you're looking to stay somewhere out of the city and don't mind taking the train, then you could do a lot worse than the Panda Hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room on one of the higher floors for a bit more of a view

Alternative to taking MTR to the center of city, we also offer free shuttle bus to our room guests travelling between Hotel and Tsim Sha Tsui, which takes about 30mins.

We look forward to welcoming you soon in the near future.

Ok the hotel itself is fine and I guess it was relatively inexpensive which is why our tour company put us there. Quite handy for the airport too but that is it on the plus side. If you want to see Hong Kong forget this place - its way too far out of the centre of the Hong Kong you really want to see. Dreary suburbia it is, 10 minutes walk from the metro and a 45 minute metro ride to get anywhere central in Kowloon. Nothing cultural or interesting to see in the neigbourhood either. I would suggest if you are time limited as we were then pay that little extra and find somewhere more central or in a more interesting environment. Having now visited Hong Kong I still dont think I really saw it so will just have to go back.....

I am a regular visitor to Hong Kong and can spend anything from a week to three months in the territory for trail walking and trips into Mainland China.

Accommodation can be an issue. The Jockey Club Youth Hostels are great value but out of the way. The Chungking Mansion is a challenge on many levels and has now been labelled the new Kowloon Walled City. In general hotels in Hong Kong are a frightful price and room sizes are small in many cases with views that are less to die for and more wished I had died.

So to be offered the Panda Hotel by Trailfinders has been an amazing find.

The first plus that struck me was how friendly and helpful all of the Panda Team are.

And then I walked into my room for the next three weeks and I was immediately bowled over by the room size and quality for the money paid.

In Chungking Mansion you will pay at least £25 per night for a decent clean room with out looking windows and room size including wet room being 14ft by 6ft. The Panda Hotel room size comes in at 26ft by 16ft. Yes I measure the rooms I stay in! The deal for three weeks worked out at £56 per night. I also stayed in April 2012 for three days and five days and the price for the much shorter stay was £90 per night. Just on the room size the math says it is a great deal.

The Panda Hotel standard room comes with a good sized Sony TV with premium channels including three sports channels two of which are Barclays Premier Football. Discovery and National Geographic and a channel AXN which has American shows like CSI. MTV and a film channel. Local Hong Kong channels come with English subtitles even if the programme is in English.

Panda rooms come with a small fridge which if you shuffle up the drinks will take a bit of fruit and milk - that sort of thing.

There is a McDonalds across the road. KFC are within the just refurbished shopping complex which is Panda Place. A Wellcome and Park n Shop Supermarkets are also right there at the hotel. And a Watsons drug store with helpful staff.

The MTR into Tsimsy the tourist area takes about 20 minutes. The MTR Airport Express train is very expensive at $100 (£8). Maybe of better use on the return flight as it includes city centre check in at Kowloon and Hong Kong Stations. Better to take the A31 bus from the Airport to Tai Wo Hau MTR for $18.90 (£1.50). On board English announcement confirms next stop details. Step off at Tai Wo Hau and walk west on the pavement you got off on. You can see a panda on the side of the hotel so easy landmark to see.

If you need Airport bus into Tsim Sha Tsui (Tsimsy) is A21 and cost $33 if you need cash from Chungking Mansion. MTR from there to hotel is $8.9 (70 pence).

I thoroughly recommend Panda Hotel. I doubt you will do better in Hong Kong for a clean and very friendly place which is quiet and maybe even a home from home. Certainly very comfortable and relaxing after a long day walking in the hills and looking at walled villages and study halls. If shops are your thing then you need IFC Island side and Central. Maybe shopping complexes like MTR Sha Tin. The locals head for Shenzhen for their bargains these days.

I could go on about Hong Kong for a long time. Great city and so much more to do than you think. So much more than a stop over on the way to somewhere. Worth a week ( 7 nights)at least.

I know Hong Kong Trail Walking and History. Let me know if you need help.

We were desperately looking for an reasonably-priced hotel near the airport for one night and the Panda Hotel has proved to be a good solution. It is not cheap but no accommodation is cheap in Hong Kong... We were upgraded to the executive floor and the room was spacious and clean and the staff was efficient even for our very early check-out. We didn't try the breakfast. We didn't take the airport shuttle of the hotel that was a little pricey for our taste (120$ pax). On both ways, we took the the Airport Express to Tsing Yi Station (60$ pax) and then a taxi to the hotel (40$).
