“An excellent hotel, but with drawbacks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

The Grand Hyatt is like many 5 star hotels in Asia: spacious and lavishly fitted, with very well presented rooms where everything works and the sort of impeccable service that you only get in this part of the world. It's a very nice hotel to be in.

Its location next to the convention centre means that it feels primarily like a business hotel. If you are travelling on business and not attending a conference you'll need to make up your own mind whether the location suits you - for me it's very convenient but it does feel a little bit removed from the centre. It's also worth bearing in mind that it currently has a building site on the harbour next to it and during my stay the building activity started fairly early and carried on until late evening. Allied to that, the hotel is currently undertaking a room renovation programme. I received a warning about potential noise during the daytime, although this didn't affect me.

So if you are concerned about building noise or want to be in the heart of the town, this may not be the best choice for you at the moment.

Room Tip: My Harbour View room overlooked the harbour building site so it's probably best to decline an &q...

Dear SixNineOne

Greetings. Thank you for taking the time to share your recent stay experience with us. We appreciate your understanding regarding the temporary condition of the hotel - guestrooms renovation and the works outside of the hotel. We trust that when the external works is completed, our guests will benefit from the convenience of access to anywhere in Hong Kong even easier than now. Hope that on your next stay, you can book into high floors so that you can take full advantage of the beautiful harbour views. We thank you again for choosing to stay with us. Look forward to welcoming you back again.

Grand Hyatt Hotels never seem to disappoint its clients. They delivered the same excellent service like any other of their hotels around the world. Though, they may be quite expensive, it’s worth it. However, it functions more as a business hotel than one for leisure. I really loved their gym and their pool amenities. Their room costs more when facing the Harbor but a few dollars more in the bill gives a fantastic and breathtaking view of the seascape.

Dear CathyS

Greetings. Thank you for taking the time to share your recent stay experience with us. We truly appreciate your compliments. Hope that the next time on your return, apart from the pool and fitness studios, you will have a chance to enjoy other leisure facilities including the 400 metre jogging path, tennis courts, squash courts and the golf driving range (except the jogging path, you can rent the rest with our Concierge). The hotel is also close to the shopping areas such as Admiralty, Central and Tsim Sha Tsui. Again our Concierge team would be more than pleased to offer you the information.

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us. We look forward to welcomimg you back.

The staff have a wonderful attitude which mean you genuinely feel welcomed returning to the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. Excellent rooms for recovering after a full day working in Hong Kong with quality beds and a good room layout that means catching up with emails is easy. A very impressive hotel.

I am in two minds about the Grand Hyatt. It has real strengths - the lovely outside pool area, the brilliant views of the harbour, the delicious buffet at Tiffin. On the other hand service was a bit patchy (eg. Failed to leave a breakfast card or replenish the milk) and our unrefurbished room was a little down at heel. The price reflected this, being quite reasonable compared with the top level hotels. ReFurbishment works were ongoing but did not really affect us though there is a bit of noise from the land reclamation work outside.
Initially I was uncertain about the position next to the Convention Centre but I decided I quite liked it because it gives a great view and the Star Ferry to Kowloon etc is nearby. It is a bit of a walk to Central though
With a refurbished room it would be very good, and all in all I would probably stay again so long as prices remain realistic.

Room Tip: Those with a harbour view cost more but the view is spectacular.

I stayed there for 2 weeks for a family visit. The hotel is under renovation and stayed at the original room. Very clean room with an open view.

Clean bed and sheet, we asked for a baby crib and that took over an hour long, and the crib was there, installed nicely for the baby but baby would cry being in there, I think it was because the mattress was too hard so we placed a towel and he slept okay.

The room service was very helpful and all the staff in the hotel were helpful and professional, they took extra miles to make sure they offered the help that I needed, from making reservations for restaurants to arranging things for my personal need.

It is a place that I would stay again, just that it was a little long walk to nearby transportation and I have been in and out by Taxi, which is very cheap compare to taxi in the states and in Europe, can't complain really.

Great breakfast and great club floor service also. The doormen were so extremely helpful and I owe everyone a million thanks. I also stayed at a few top top name hotels like the Pennisula and this place really stands out in terms of service.

For a hotel that has been around for quite a few decades, they do keep everything very clean and neat without a dent, though an update of an overall appearance would keep a refreshing look but I can't care less.

Room Tip: We picked the old room because I was told that the new rooms are nice but they have the "new&qu...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

I have stayed in various Hyatt Hotel group hotels over the years and always been impressed with the quality of the properties and services, until now. The Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is a large, soulless hotel next to a convention centre. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and so construction noise is audible at times during the day time. We were allocated a room that has yet to be refurbished. The room was OK in size but tired in its decor. The decent size bathroom was the nicest part of the room clad in marble and with a walk in shower as well as a bath. The hotel public areas are large with no atmosphere. The staff were efficient and pleasant enough. The hotel is located on Hong Kong island a short walk from the Star Ferry but is a taxi ride from the nearest quality shopping mall and decent restaurants. There is such a large choice of high end hotels in Hong Kong that even after refurbishment is complete I would be unlikely to stay here again. A disappointing experience.

Room Tip: Request one of the newly refurbished rooms with a harbour view.

We stayed here in July 2013 as part of round-the-world travel. I am a Hyatt Platinum, and my husband is a Hyatt Diamond. We used our Hyatt anniversary certificates for one night stay. We booked two rooms, one for ourselves and one for our sons. We knew that the Diamond reservation might get an upgrade to the Club level, but not the Platinum reservation. We did not want to get split up as a family if this happened at time of check-in, so we wrote to the hotel and explained the situation. The manager was very kind to honor our request, and upgraded both reservations to a connecting room on the Club level! We loved the rooms with all amenities. Beds were very comfortable for all of us.

The breakfast and evening reception at the Grand Club were wonderful! The servers were sensitive and attentive to our vegetarian needs, which definitely enhanced our stay. This property is one of the best hotels that we have stayed around the world. We will come back!!
